Prot
I still haven't glued on the primary (top) turret though. I feel Lascanons make the most sense, but it does not seem... magnet friendly for swapping las out for assault cannons. Assault Cannon is the superior weapon overall to be honest (apply math against a wide range of targets and you'll see). The Stormraven is fast enough so that the range difference doesn't matter as much, it makes it a pretty obvious choice in my opinion. I mean it would be so nice to go with the anti-tank option. Especially against Astra where I anticipate real issues..... Thing is, the Assault Cannon is arguably just as good as the lascannon, even against Av14. It inflicts more HP on average (0.40 versus 0.30), but the lascannon has a chance to kill a vehicle in 1 shot due to being ap2. Against lower Av the odds turn more into favour of the Assault Cannon obviously. Okay, arguably the 'obvious' choice is Lascannons simply because of a Twinlinked S9/AP2 is highly desirable in a Grey Knights army.... However I see Zhukov's point. I mean it is now a game of Glances right? Aside from a Multi-melta which truly does have an excellent chance of plowing through a vehicle, I just never get lucky enough with that one lascannon. What I do like better off the top about the Assault Cannon is going after other flyers. If someone doesn't jink, I think the Assault Cannon is quite easily the better choice combined with the MM and even missiles. @Prot. I reckon the way you want to go about magnetising the lascannons/assault cannons is by not putting in the rod bit in the first place. Slam a magnet in each hole, drill out the bit in the guns where the pin is supposed to be, magnets, done! Sounds like you've got a bit of a headache with the assembly there, that sucks Hope you can get it sorted without too much work. Actually, I'm going to be honest here. That's a real simple solution. I guess I was kind of frustrated at that point with the whole tail section issue, I just got tired of it and glued it on. lol Oh well. It's done. Never glue the turret. It's easy to magnetize it so it stays in place and still rotates. SJ Oh for sure. I won't glue on the turret. Actually it seems to have a nice compression fit! It's not quite the same size... I had to do some shaving in the hole to be able to fit a razorback turret on a raven That was a good thought though. Razorback turret for the option, but if you have to shave it, I guess that renders it useless to the razorback. Acebaur
That was a good thought though. Razorback turret for the option, but if you have to shave it, I guess that renders it useless to the razorback. Depends on if you plan on using them in the same list ;) I mean it is now a game of Glances right? I even blew a Necron Ghost Ark with a Typhoon ML! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304975-how-do-you-run-your-stormraven/page/5/#findComment-3998321 Share on other sites
Ishagu
Las Cannon is always worth it as it can stun vehicles, destroy weapons or immobilise them even if it doesn't destroy them... Zhukov
Las Cannon is always worth it as it can stun vehicles, destroy weapons or immobilise them even if it doesn't destroy them... The Assault Cannon can do this as well, so how is this an argument in favour of the lascannon? Ishagu
The Lascannon is an almost guaranteed pen. You need to roll a 6 to even damage av12 with an assault cannon. Like I said, gk have plenty of str7 rending weapons already. I'd rather have str9 ap2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304975-how-do-you-run-your-stormraven/page/5/#findComment-3998600 Share on other sites
Zhukov
The Lascannon is an almost guaranteed pen. You need to roll a 6 to even damage av12 with an assault cannon. Like I said, gk have plenty of str7 rending weapons already. I'd rather have str9 ap2 I understand the feeling you have here, but this is mostly a matter of math. I'm not saying there isn't any benefit to a lascannon, but I think it's smaller than you'd expect! Without even using math: You still do no damage on a 1 and a 2 and glance on a 3 with a lascannon versus Av12. That's not a guaranteed pen, that's 3 out of 6 possibilities. An Assault Cannon only does it on a 6, yes, but you have 4 shots for that and every 6 is a pen. In the end the math (I can show it if you want) in this case adds up to: -Assault Cannon does a higher amount of penetrating hits on average. -Assault Cannon has the potential of causing multiple penetrating hits. -The lascannon is more reliable in getting some damage in. (Unexpected isn't it, while the Assault Cannon does more damage on average ^^) -Lascannon has the benefit of Ap2. However, Av12 and Av14 vehicles are the only cases (I think, too lazy to do all the math) where it's a bit ambigious which weapon is better. Still no clear (if any) advantage for the lascannon though. The lascannon isn't bad really, but if we're being honest then the only real advantage it has is the range, not the damage output.
