depthcharge12
I believe that there are "Grand Companies" of about 3,000 legionaries (?) lead by Warsmiths, who are the equivalent of praetors or theatre commanders. Under Perturabo, the Stor-Bezhak - or the artillery specialists - hold higher standing than their brethren, if not, more esteem. blackoption
I thought the Grand Battalions were held higher than the Grand Companies. The reason I say this is that Valen is the Grand Battalion Commander for the 77th (and LD 10) while that terminator captain they have (golg I think his name is) commands a Grand Company but is only LD 9. Edit 1: In other words. Chapter Level = Grand Battalion Battalion Level = Grand Company Company level = company Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305184-iron-warrior-experts/#findComment-3988845 Share on other sites

I'm pretty sure Graham McNeill called him a Triarch (one of the top 3 senior commanders in the entire Legion), but then the FW writing says he was "flawed but useful" and "never ascended to the inner circle of IW leadership." From what I remember of The Crimson Fist, I think his portrayal there heavily favors the latter... But Page 112 of FW HH book 3 lists the order as: Chapter Level: Grand Battalion (500-4000 legionaries) Battalion Level: Grand Company (300-500 legionaries) Company Level: Line Company (100 legionaries) Section/platoon level: Armored Century (20 legionaries) It also notes that the IW had specialized formations such as the Dominators (terminator vets assigned at the Grand Battalion level) and the Stor-Bezhak, which were sorta like the legion reserve and elite line breakers. No estimates to their size though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305184-iron-warrior-experts/#findComment-3988867 Share on other sites
Goreshed
Theoretically a Grand Battalion was around 1,000 legionaries. The 500-4k was more of war zone influx/losses. Line Companies were 100 legionaries but these were also boosted by armoured units that were generally organized into Centuries around 20 tanks. The Stor-Bezhak were more of an elite artillery unit then anything else. But the general feel that I get from them is that they are handled like the Dominators in that they are loaned out to all the Grand Battalions. If you really look at how Perturabo went around and did things there wasn't any really 'reserve' force. It was one force that was good at attack and defense.
