Help with a DarkAngel Veteran Squad

I have robed bodies to build nine veterans, but Im trying decide how to kit them out. I was thinking four combi plasmas and bolters for the rest with sarge having some sort of close combat weapon. My army right now has one squad of tactical marines and a bare bones scout squad. Plus I have two squads of terminator and a squad of deathwing knights so Im not really hurting for anti tank. I do plan on adding another tact squad and a command squad with the banner of devastion down the road. So what do you guys think?

I think the load out depends on how you plan on playing them.

For example if you deploy them via drop pod  in a banner of devastation list I like the combi-plasma load out. Turn one have them land and discharge plasmas into a high value target. Turn two move the banner within range and now you have a massive dakka squad pressuring the enemy. I might also consider including a plasma cannon heavy in there as well. If they plan on camping an objective (with Azrael attached providing FNP courtesy of his warlord trait) it is nice to have them continue to be a ranged threat, otherwise it is a large block of immobile points that could potentially be ignored.

If you plan on using them as a melee force (e..g. IC escort in a land raider) then melee weapons to taste however with your other available assault options I don't think this would be your most optimal use of points.

Small suggestion: if you are going to include an upgraded close combat weapon, put it on a regular squaddie instead of the sergeant.  That way, it can't be sniped out in an challenge.

You know, I'd never considered using Vets in a drop pod in a BoD list, but dang that's not a bad idea at all.

Great tip GMR and give them a try! I think they work very well in that configuration and are very flexible.

On their own they can deliver a nice special weapon alpha strike with the option to boost them in later rounds with the banner. Combat squad them on the drop to increase survivability. You can even tool up one combat squad for assault and one for ranged if you want to give yourself more options. A librarian with the PFG can cover both squads on the drop but then the assault squad can rush in and charge without having to worry about giving the enemy a 4+ invulnerable save.

One specific configuration I like them with is as and a full squad escort for Azrael. Drop them in to secure/clear an objective and then have them dig in and hold. Azrael gives them a 4+ invulnerable and FNP for his warlord trait. Give them a heavy weapon and dare anyone to try and come after your cheese brick.
