Back in the game!

Hello all. I briefly got into 40k back in 2011 but got out shortly after. Now all my friends are playing and I'm hooked. I've started playing AM and just getting the basics down with 250 and 500 point games with a few shock troops, veteran squads w/ HWTs and some snipers. I'm looking to eventually build up to a 1750 or 1850 competitive army that I can take to local tournaments and get some experience. If anyone has any advice they are willing to share on a 1850 point list, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't want some crazy kill all squad. I would like a solid team that I can learn to make good in my own way. Also I'm leaning more towards mobs with a few vehicles but if there are no competitive mob set ups I can be persuaded to take more vehicles. Thank you for any and all help.

From what I can tell you are looking for an infantry backbone army backed up by armour. Are thinking of going platoons or vets? Or a mix? What you should probably do is at least identify what the key units you want to use and then build around those. You can always check out the army list section as you can always get ideas from the lists of other players.

Welcome to the Guard and B&C Josh! There's a lot of good reading for you here, check out the resources topic and you'll find some very useful information to help you get going :) Guard can do a lot of things especially at 1850pts so I'd suggest giving your army theme a ponder before leaping into forging lists.

Have you started painting your Guard yet, do you have a colour scheme or any fluff? You can create a WIP topic here in the Guard section to share and progress on your army :tu:
