I'm using the "P" word this week....

Paladins.

 

Do you guys have any advice?

 

The short version of the story is I have my 1K list done up from the campaign. I confess I'm a bit burned out after painting/assembling basically non-stop for 2 weeks every spare minute I had after work.

 

SO to get to 1850 I've added expensive stuff to keep it quick and easy:

 

1K +

Draigo

second Libby

5 Pals w/Apoth

Eversor Assassin.

 

I guess essentially I'm wondering if you guys think this can keep up with the Jones' in 1850 games? Just how bad are Paladins?

Paladins are amazing when going against other Marines due to a lack of insta death , they only fail when you're up against things that can insta gib them with ease like tau or imperial knights. They also fail against horde armies because those extra wounds and weapon skill mean absolutely nothing when getting beat from all directions from an ork horde with fists or whatever.

Stern has Sanctuary, if you want it guaranteed. One of the main reasons why I go with a Liber Libby is to fish for Sanctuary, Vortex, Gate, etc..

 

As to Pallies, they aren't bad. It's just that they are too expensive when compared to GKTs, especially when the same S8+ AP1-2 weapons will kill a 55+ppm Paloy as it will a 33+ppm GKT. However, in mass, Pallies are pretty spectacular.

Urgh...fine...they're still the unwashed hobos of our codex though. Like seriously, I'd take Purgators over Paladins if I was forced to take our bad stuff at gunpoint. 

 

Firstly, you need two psycannons, a banner, and an Apothecary. You may weep as you contemplate how many normal Terminators this setup costs.

Now that ritual is done with, you must now procure Draigo. Why? 'Gate' gets them into weapon range quickly, his storm shield means they don't auto-splat to S8 (hi Mr Riptide), and he loves some +1A and 5+ FNP on top of his already absurd statline. 

 

Now, if you are really that unconcerned with how many points you can cram into one tiny unit, take Stern. He doesn't team-kill anymore (yay), but now his power reads blank except against Daemons (where he is absolutely hilarious). Lose some, lose some, as they say. His one shining light is he has 'Sanctuary'. Attach to Draigo+friends, cast every turn, watch them weep as they try and break a 2+/2+ save with 5+ FNP on top. It's like having Loth, but you get around his ban. 

I adore your masochism... 

 

I have had "good" results with Stern/GKGM + 5 man 3x Hammer and 2x Falchs (sarge gets Hammer+MB's-for all the armor love S10 is just not enough sometimes) 2xPsycans + Aphothecary (facs) + Draigo = jump around with 2++/3++/4++ palies with some LoS shenigans 

 

HOWEVER, one solid round of shooting and your "over9000!" worth of points of "P" unit is turned into ash/trash

Lol, provided he's not banned by the organisers. Which is pretty common. He generates a lot of irrational hate towards FW rules, him and the Lucius pod. Oh, and Spartans and Achilles.

There are lot more broken FW units; I find Loth to be a gamble 2W libby with hgh roll expectations...dont think he is that broken, perhaps if Tiggy would not be a part of the game, than maybe...

The thing about Tiggy is GK should be able to shut him down because Ultra's typically rely specifically on him for... everything Psychic. It's a lot of eggs in one basket.

 

Also being an Ultra player, I have trouble loathing anyone for playing Tiggy (without allying him in) because the special characters for Ultra's are just so incredibly bad and over priced. There's little option, aside from the generic Capt America biker...

I'm trying to manipulate a second Psycannon into my 5 man "P" squad.

 

I think 2 Libbies in this list is going to be crucial to get the important stuff off like Gate (For the GKT) and hopefully Vortex for both squads. I had to jiggle some of the options in the list to get the second Psycannon in but I'm thinking I gotta equalize my lack of numbers big time to compensate for the fact I'm going to have 20~ models in 1850. lol (wow I don't have a chance, do I?)

 

Still I'm super curious to see how this will work, and there's only one way to find out.

Hey man no argument from me, I agree. But a lot of tourney organisers do not, and ban him. 
 
If you want more psycannon man, change one the Librarians for a Grand Master. Still Mastery 2, and a combat hero no less.
