I've seen some obvious recasts of horus on ebay...

Unfortunately, reporting it is unlikely to have any effect other than cause the recaster/eBay to close that account, only to pop up under another account within days. Most FW recasters are out of China, Hong Kong, and Russia, and few if any have an eBay feedback rating in the double digits (and none I'm aware of has hit triple digits).

It's a big caveat emptor situation. Just make sure they show it in/with the original FW packaging, and you've got a better chance of getting the real deal.

If people are looking for the real deal, they wouldn't be on eBay anyway - they would be on the FW site.

As for recasters, though I do find it somewhat condemnable, they understand supply and demand and more often than not help get more people into the 30k hobby.

But I won't get up on a soapbox and preach the moralities of recasting practices. FW likely patrols eBay an has already gotten rid of quite a few places.

I don't think that's necessarily fair. I've been bitten by fakes more than a few times buying 'second hand basecoated' stuff and bits and so forth from eBay for conversions. Really frustrating.

My opinion? Do it.

With the rumoured death of the current incarnation of Fantasy, GW seems to be acting more and more like a profit-driven business, which means that as soon the Heresy-era stuff stops making them as much money, they'll put less and less into new product.

If making life difficult for an eBayer is enough to discourage them from selling bootleg resin, then for the sake of the greater hobby I reckon it's worth doing.

I've reported re-casters before. ForgeWorld will take action against the sellers, but as previously said they will simply close one account and open another.

I wouldn't call it petty, I would like to think I'm protecting the quality of the hobby. I've been burnt by recasts before, they weren't bad (about 95% quality of ForgeWorld) but weren't that much cheaper than going to ForgeWorld direct at free postage. At that point I'd rather ForgeWorld have the cash and support the hobby directly, rather than funneling money into a re-caster.

Also, just because the picture shows a ForgeWorld bag doesn't eliminate the chances of it being a recast. I've bid on a packaged item for it to come through in a basic sealed plastic bag from Ikea (off all places).

So the Swedish flat-pack furniture company are now recasters too? This truly is the Age of Darkness.

Makes you want to punch them right in the lingonberries, doesn't it?

Right in their Sweedish Meatballs and their Hotdogs tongue.png

Someone will probably buy those, unknown to him/her that they are fakes.

It's not good for the hobby...

Or somebody who knows what to look for will buy it, because they can't afford Forgeworld smile.png
If you can't afford it, you're not justified in stealing someone's intellectual property!

I'm heading this off right here before it erupts into a big fight, but here's the deal with recasts and this board: it's no longer the big, bad, secret sin and you can freely admit to using them, but you cannot direct people to where you purchased them. You don't have to like them, but they've been around for years and aren't going away anytime soon.

Beyond that, be careful of how you phrase any such dislike of the recasts or those who use them, lest you stray into the territory of an attack on another member, which is against the rules of this board.
