corsairjoe
Hey everybody! I've been working on a Raven Guard 30k army for some time now, and I'd like to kick it up to 1500 points. Here is what I am thinking so far: HQ (165 pts) Praetor (TL Ravens Talons, Digital Lasers, Refractor Field) - Pride of the Legion RoW Troops (775 pts) Vet Tac Squad x9 - Sarge w/ Combi-Melta - Melta Bombs, Melta Gun - Furious Charge Vet Tac Squad x10 - Sarge w/ Combi-Melta - Melta Bombs, Melta Gun, Heavy Bolter - Sniper Vet Tac Squad x10 - Sarge w/ Combi-Melta - Melta Bombs, Melta Gun, Heavy Bolter - Sniper Dedicated Transport (295) pts Darkwing Storm Eagle - Armoured Ceramite Rhino - Dozer Blade, Auxiliary Drive Elites (150 pts) Dreadnought - TL Lascannon Heavy Support (120 pts) Deathstorm Drop Pod - Krak Missile Launchers 1500 on the nose. This list is themed as a post-Isstvan Raptors strike force. Praetor will ride with the squad of 9 in the Darkwing. One Vet Squad in the Rhino, the other one infiltrates or sits on an objective. Currently, I still need to buy the Darkwing and five more MK VI guys for the third Vet Squad. So, I have some flexibility here. I've also been thinking about picking up a Spartan instead of the Darkwing. Thoughts? Hesh Kadesh
Praetor with Raven's Talons and a Jump Pack; that's 6 S5 Ap3 MC'd Rending attacks on the charge. Can't go far wrong with that for damage output. He's on foot, maybe nab Cameleoline from somewhere to get Stealth. Your Furious Charge Squad; no Power Weapons? I know they're not exactly cheap, but it doesn't waste that +1 to wound on the charge. I'm guessing you don't really want to completely annihilated what you charge to prevent the enemy from shooting you back, but at the same time, seeing 2/3rd of wounds bounce back off is pretty disheartening. Plus, you have no way of getting at Terminators effectively. No, Rending does not count. Darkwing Storm Eagle; are Skyfire/Flyer mounted Multi-meltas within 12" a massive problem for you? I'd ditch this upgrade. Deathstorm... I'm not sold on these at all. I think they're a Victory point waiting to happen. Dreadnought; a lone Dreadnought isn't much fun to have loitering at the back. Unlike the majority of your army, it can't infiltrate, and a single lascannon shot is pretty underpowered, BS5 or not in 7th edition. It's okay at taking on light vehicles, but you have nothing to take on Land Raiders outside of melta; which at this level when a Land Raider is the heaviest tank you can field, and gets the most return from Armoured Ceramite, you can almost be guaranteed will have it. Nusquam
The new faq for the deathstorms makes me iffy on krakstorm pods, but fragstorm definitely got better. You could use the pod to drop the dread in instead. Then use the points saved to give the FC vets some power weapons. The ceramite and aux drive points would probably be better going towards something like an apothecary or for thr FC vet squad. Or artificer armor for the sarges or a talon and powerfist fir the praetor etc. I love the Darkwing myself so i recommend that over a Spartan. That's my input. Other than that is a solid start. defl0
I wouldn't under estimate fearless on the vets either as a special. Personally, I would rather force my opponent to kill my squads to the man over increased damage out put. I also think you should find some points for power axes. One or two per squad makes these units lethal. My larger criticism of the list is the tactics. Sure, melta bomb vets are scary, but you have to get here. So are melta guns, but you have to get within 6". If you are going to spend all those points you have to use them! So I would say transport up. Lose the dread... Why not just take 2 meltas or plasma guns per squad and put them in a rhino with a combi melta? Then at least you can drive around and threaten units. You figure you set up 18" away, drive up 6", deploy 6" and in range 6" to anything on the deployment line. Charge next turn. Or run them in drop pods. Drop in, shoot out of the pod. Next turn assault out of the pod with melta bombs. This also gives you some flexibility with your pod as you can decided what to drop when. Pro tip: Kill units first run with anti air to pave the way for your air support. Check out my tactics blog, I just wrote an article on Rhinos. I think they are really good for Raven Guard. http://www.petehappens.com/2015/03/raven-guard-30k-rhino-armored-personnel.html All that said, I like sniper vets, but it's too expensive to dual purpose them IMO. Naked guys with bolters and sniper are just fine. It's a lot of points tied up for function you likely won't be using. Finally maybe swap a unit of vets for terminators. I mean you have like 250+ points tied up in a squad. That's enough for 6 termies with combi meltas, power axes and maybe a chin fist or two. To me 6 termies and a praetor charging out of a storm eagle, dumping all that melta on a transport and then charging the squad inside sounds a lot more deadly then a vet squad. Hell at that point you could termy up the praetor. I think the same points give you a termi armor with a 2+/5++(or 4++), furious charge and raven talons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305449-raven-guard-1500-pts/#findComment-3997310 Share on other sites
