Blagon
This is the first WH40k army I can call my own. I chose Adepta Sororitas because they were awesome in Soulstorm and become bored of the macho man trope spread across gaming. My infantry are proxy using the strategy of female heads on dreamforge valkir soldiers. My vehicles are legit though. I've built enough for a 750 point army. I don't plan on playing in any competitive tournaments, building these Sisters was already rewarding. My ideas for paint scheme start with red armor, black robes, and bronze detail. That makes it pretty close to Bloody Rose. I have gesso in both black and white, not sure which would be better to prime with. This if the first project of this type I've undertaken, any tips or ideas would be great. http://i.imgur.com/dPcnjbk.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0jkuUVg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bXytP5X.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wTMwmOp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UUicWu2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/T9Z1G3a.jpg http://i.imgur.com/KDYvgtt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/C4ANJwQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hpOLg8z.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/ Share on other sites
Kriegsmacht
Wasn't expecting to see the plastic bodies. Looks neat. The sister with bolt pistol and lightning claw might need some extra shoulder pads to match the others. Right now they look alright but kind of bare. Naminé
For Bloody Rose I would go with a Black Primer and then layer up the brightness of the red. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/#findComment-3998460 Share on other sites

That's supposed to be a hospitaller, and the claw is a awkward proxy for her chirurgeon's tools. I added shoulder pads for her though. If you have any small grenades to stick on the back of the claw, you could paint them up as vials of fluids :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/#findComment-3998771 Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
Black will give a deeper, richer shade to what you put on it, while white undercoat will give a brighter, more comic-book type look. It's down to taste, but I always under coat black. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/#findComment-3999118 Share on other sites
bkde
In regards to the primer question...I usually just spray with whatever colour my base coat for the armour will be, then black in everything not armour (faces, weapons, robes) and base coat those bits as normal. Currently my Sisters have silver armour, so I prime with the Army Painter Chainmail spray straight over the metal miniature. I think they do a dark burgundy too, could be worth checking out. I'd recommend doing up a test model in those colours first, sometimes red and gold together (i.e. red armour with gold details) can be difficult to get right. The colours don't differentiate very well when you're looking at the model. Silver details may show up better. The figures look great though! Duke Danse Macabre
I do like the models, not really sisters in my eyes but still cool models. Bronze and gold ifind easy to do, a quick way is Balthazzar Gold and mitril silver mixed 70/30 painted over black then washed Agrax for broze, to make gold I then drybrush with a lighter mix of the paints after, works a treat. grendal1989
Just make sure you freehand or use transfers to get the aquilla and fleur-de-lis on them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/#findComment-4006798 Share on other sites
Blagon
Just make sure you freehand or use transfers to get the aquilla and fleur-de-lis on them. I don't think my skills are up to free-handing fleur-de-lis thirty times. What are transfers? Duke Danse Macabre
The transfers are those water paper transfers with printed images on them which you can slide off onto models and set them in place so they look perfect instead of having to paint them. Personally I find it easier to paint them than try and use the transfers. Blagon
Here's a Rhino I painted. My buddy has an airbrush that he used to basecoat it, then I did the rest. There are a few more details to clean up before it's done (bronze in a couple more places, shading on the laud hailer wings). I like how it's looking. I want to drybrush more in some places to add some wear. My ink washes always come out crappy (they look like coffee stains) any tips? http://i.imgur.com/TXCx5wz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4m0cDbQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4U34hzU.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305629-first-sisters-army/#findComment-4014105 Share on other sites

TheOneTrueZon
Very nice work, I am thinking building a similar Sisters detachment to go with a specialized Black Templar force I am creating that has female Marines. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318097-the-silent-sword-crusade/ I also found out about a kickstarter from the Raging Heros miniature company and they have a new range coming out later this year that looks to have some promising conversion models among them. https://www.pinterest.com/ragingheroes/tgg-2-darkness-light/ A lot of folks think their scuplts aren't right for Sisters but I think with a little imagination they could be excellent. In light of GW making sudden announcements these are some of the newer minis out there that have good quality and are very dynamic. There could be some good elites to be had, I know I'm going to get some! *Furyou Miko
A little imagination? You mean, as in, re-imagining the Battle Sisters as the Harem Dancers of the Emperor? Teetengee
Some of their new line might be ok, but only some of them, and only if the sculpts don't become sexualized from the concept art (the art that isn't already...) Blagon
For female marines, you can probably use the same heads I did on a standard tactical squad. Scale should match.
