FW Response on Helmeted Options for the Character Series

Recommended Posts

Hey gang. A little while ago I emailed Forge World about the lack of helmets for some models that might obviously benefit from having one (boarding action master Alexis Polux, for one) and I got this in the inbox today:

Thanks for your e-mail. With the HH Character series the decision to make them without helmets for the most part was taken because we wanted to have these models as show pieces as well as gaming pieces. We wanted the models to display their personality which is, more often than not, evident in their faces. With the two models that are supplied with helmets, this was done as these two characters are as well know for their individual helmet styles as for the rest of their appearance. If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

There you have it gang. If you don't have a super memorable helmet description, you can forget about it. Time to start kit-bashing your own Primarch helmets!

At least we now know the reason!

Kinda happy that I chose DG a long time back, Typhus definitely looks better with his helm on and at least Mortarion has a hood.  Kinda wanted Khârn and Polux, but whilst Khârn is ok it has a few niggles that scream me away from it, for Polux I think I'd just switch to a helmet np.  This all kinda has me worried for any other special char as I really do prefer helmets to faces :)

I feel like sending them an email that says:

"Dear most excellent staff and sculptors of ForgeWorld,

Don't censored.gif up Sanguinius.

No Pressure."

I'm here to push likes and make comments, but I'm all out of likes :(

I agree, though. We should.

I hope they do dorn well. He's not to hard either when you think about it. He was kind of the plain primarch if that's a thing. I also don't want my sanguinus looking messed up. When he is released I WILL buy him and I will have a professional painter paint him because I couldn't possibly do him justice.

This doesn't make much sense; aren't there Primarch models with detachable heads whose neck cavities could accept helmeted versions, like Ferrus Manus?  Besides, hasn't Master Chief from the Halo video game series gotten plenty of popularity despite being helmeted and faceless for so many games?  Or even Darth Vader from the original Star Wars movie trilogy?

They should at the very least make a version of Lion El'Jonson with his helmet on.  The Lion Helm has been around as a model for a long time now, though the current 40k model does look a bit undersized for someone with a Primarch's stature.

And why not make helmeted primarchs a "cast to order" item?  Make them look nice enough and lots of people will snap them up (like Sevatar's helmet, for instance).  An alternate head for Fulgrim with his hair not "gone to the wind" and looking only slightly less "perfection incarnate" than Sanguinius would be quite nice too.  Giving Guilliman a good helmet would also be nice, since not having one nearly cost him his life on two separate occasions, during and shortly after the Battle of Calth.

Look up the thread about the most recent weekender where they revealed Guilliman but up until then it was up in the air who was being revealed. See my decent into raving madness. You'll know how anxious I am for Dorn with that alone :P

I'm kind of sad about this. Is it really that high of a production cost to sculpt an extra helmet here or there? With some it makes sense; I never expected a cool helmet for Armillus Dynat, I'm honestly just happy we have a figure for him at all. But there are some cases where it's like hey... c'mon. Having more unique helmets out there could even increase sales, right? Let's say there's a new 31 pound special character kit. Many might not buy it because it's distinctly not your Legion. BUT they release a cool Polux helmet model for his MkIII armour, and now there's a helmet you just have to have for that perfect conversion for your Iron Warriors orUltramarines... And then you find something to do with the body later (and it often ends up being awesome). But the unique helmetless character heads don't inspire that nearly as often. And when the head contributes a huge amount of character to the model, it's kind of a pity we won't see more options.

I understand their logic, and there really was only one Primarch whose identity and character includes a helmet, and that is the Lion, simply because of its relevance to later eras.

But I still want to see Primarchs with helms. Every damn one of them. Every single one already released looks better in my head with an imaginary helm attached. It just adds to their power, their presence, their authority.

agree!!!!!

What the hell can I use for Polix's helmet. Don't think any existing helmet is big enough.

Well there's always the imperial knight... Lol

Hmm maybe a terminator helmet for him if that the right size?

Finally got him in the post this week so I'll try a few different heads when I get the chance. There's a few in the vanguard and stern guard boxes I'd like to try.

I can understand not doing a helmet for a character like Horus, who has never been depicted (even if briefly described) in art with a helmet, but some others - prominently Night Haunter - have helmets that figure quite prominently in their lore/character that aren't covered. I think doing helmets for all characters as options would have given an opportunity to FW to continue to put their mark on characters with pieces of them we may not have seen before - imagine how cool some of the helmets Primarchs wear would be given the unique nature of their wargear

It's not worth complaining about but it does make you wonder 'what if'
