Grey Knights as SW Runic Guards

So I've seen this thing called the Vikti Runaljod, who are apparently Njal's  bodyguard of rune priests. Now I've seen some people suggest using Grey knights as counts as for this. This gave me an idea to use Grey Knights rules with some of my models to have them be what I'm calling Runic Guards. Which for my fluff will be members of my wolf guard who had their latent abilities awakened by prolonged exposure to the warp.

What suggestions do you have for this, I'm thinking of running my shooty/choppy wolf guard terminators and one of my terminator rune priests and a couple of dreads (because it's fluffy for SW to have dreads, even if it isn't for GK), as my GK detachment.

I was only ever going to use them as allies, or as a small force by themselves. They'd add psychic support for my Wolves, or my Imperial Guard, and they'd give me access to my stormraven by itself.

I think Brother-Captain Stern (counts as SW "Rune Lord") and a squad of GK Terminators (counts as SW "Rune Guard") would be a solid addition to your army.

Attach Stern/"Rune Lord" to your TH/SS Wolf Guard to buff them up to 2++ saves and S10 Thunder Hammers. Attach a 'normal" SW TDA Rune Priest to the GK Terminators/"Rune Guard" and use Divination to support their shooting, survivability, etc.

That's an interesting idea, that seems like it's a really competitive arrangement though, and my current meta doesn't have a lot of experience players, and we play for fun not to compete. The players are all roleplayers and have very little experience with wargames. I'm working out ways that I can play my army creatively and use pieces of my space wolves army that aren't being used. Pretty much my meta is my university tabletop club...

We're probably not the right people to ask about this then. Stern+GK Terminators is fine, few people are going to struggle to kill them. As Leonidas mentioned, if you wanna build something more effective, Stormhammer blob+Stern is pretty strong.

if you want to go with Fluff then you could do a Cheap Strike Squad swords and Storm bolters maybe a hammer ( not on the Justicar which is the squad sargent  ) and incinerator , then have a Brotherhood Champion as a counts as Runeguard or Fenris battle Champion , not too pointy and a nice addition to any force , it can be cheaper if you take a 5 man squad instead of 10 man squad

All the Armies being played are mine, and they're just learning how to build lists, and play the game. The games are challenging, and there's plenty of AP2, and massed fire to kill terminators, so that's not really a huge issue.

Am I mistaken in saying that Grey Knights work better as allies than as an army unto themselves? They seem pretty limited.

I actually don't dislike the dreadknight model, it needs some work, so it doesn't look as much like a headless angry baby carrier... But I actually find it to be a pretty interesting concept in 40k. They can be a pain to bring down, but I have that one figured out.

That is some really sweet work, That's very similar to the kind of thing I want to do, for my Runic Guard, I envision it being a relatively small force though, probably no more than 1500 pts. Since I have so many marines (I have over 10k of space wolves alone) but that looks like something I'm going to want to try out.
