Modelling Chainaxes on non-WE 30k marines

So, I just had to get ahold of a few Phobos chainaxes ... well, just because, rule of cool and variety etc.

I want to spread a few mixed in with my Death Guard tactical marines for when sporting additional CCWs (probably a permanent thing from a modelling perspective, bolters will be scattered on the base if I need some WYSIWYG). No, I do not want to uses them for their rules or anything of the like, they will be for a Death Guard army so they are just mere eye candy and nothing more.

Do I...

a ) Model those DG tacticals with a mix of chainswords AND chainaxes and be merry all the way.

b ) Model those DG tacticals with JUST chainaxes and go all out (wallet won't like me).

c ) Use the chainaxes to represent Power Axes on Champs and Sergeants etc (lets face it, those MkIII ones are a bit skimpy and undaunting).

d ) Magnetise both chainswords and chainaxes so I can placate the masses if someone complains.

e ) Something else...

Your thoughts appreciated smile.png

*edit, fancy faces from bullet points lol*

Well, option c would be the easier version of playing safe to placate someone who's really that determined to complain

I'd go either a or c in your case, magnetising seems like a lot of effort for little payout, and going with all axes is bad for your wallet (that money could be spent on more units!)

Definitely A!!! If I was collecting one of the more uncivilised legions (ie. every Legion except for the III and maybe the IX and XIII), I'd definitely include a mix of chainaxes and chainswords. Variety is the spice of life and chainaxes will look perfect in the Death Guard, especially if they are combined with the older Mks of armour.

Either A or C. C limits you a bit more because you 'could only' use them as power axes due to potential confusion. If they're just another type of ccw then I don't see how anyone can complain. Besides, Betrayal said that most Legions used chain axes but Angron improved the design (or something like that), so the Death Guard would be using a design that doesn't have the penetration of the WE ones.

A. I know they're military and everything being uniform is a big deal in the real military, but for some table top figures I like a good mix of parts. To me, it allows some individuality in the models, breaks up the monotony of building and painting whole units that are exactly the same, and when amassed as an army, it helps create movement and interest for the eyes. :)

Lol Wolf_Pack... have some chain axes on my bolters to complement my chain axes and add chains to my axes kinda thing? :)

Thanks all for the replies.  Option 'A' looks to be the winner, I'll be sure to mix them 50/50 with the chainswords to 'blend' them!
