Fluffy legions for Moritats

I have been wanting to put together a heresy army for a long long time and have come close numerous times to starting. What I want to know is which legion do you guys think best suits having Moritats in them. I love the idea of these lone killers roaming the battlefield and want to make a fluffy army to go with them.

Your help us greatly appreciated.

One of the books had raven guard having a lot of moratits. I'm think they even started the idea.

I also see them fitting into

Night lords, a lone killer stalking the enemy, the skulls of the fallen attached to rattling chains

Death guard, leading destroyer formations on a scorched Earth mission

Alpha legion, general misbehaving

Although most Legions used Destroyers and Moritats I wouldn't expect them to be that numerous in Iron Hands, Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, Ultramarines, Emperor's Children, Blood Angels and Sons of Horus Legions. This is just my opinion I am expecting fluff to prove me wrong ;-)

An Iron Hands Moritat? I picture that guy fighting like Christian Bale's character in Equilibrium with even the most minute movement calculated for utmost efficiency thanks to his extensive cybernetics (60-75% of his body) earned from a lifetime of near-suicidal daring.

Like this, only Iron Hands. (Spoilered for mature language, I'll remove it if the Mods deem it inappropriate)

All legions had moritats. Some simply had more than others.

nope, Salamanders don't use Destroyers or Moritats tongue.png

Not exactly. Iirc the Salamanders fluff in Massacre states that they did not favour destroyers, preferring to use their own 'cleaner' Pyroclasts. But they retained a small Destroyer cadre for xenocide operations. I don't recall any mention of Moritats.

rule-wise, you can't though (atleast in your primary detachment)

"Moritat Consuls and Destroyer units may not be used in a Salamanders Legion primary detachment, nor may phosphex weapons be taken as an option by any model in a Salamanders Legion primary detachment."

I've wondered how they would work in a dark angels legion...I mean Cypher is a bona fide gunslinger, but not a moritat.

I was thinking for personal fluff that the destroyer cadres and moritats would be drawn from disgraced knights or orders that didn't bow to the Lion's will initially. The destroyer cadre would be a redemption unit with units trying to regain their honor.

Well, like almost all units, Moritats are featured in all Legions to a greater or lesser extent - so long as your fluff justifies their presence, you can feature them in absolutely any force. As mentioned, even the Sallies - as the most cuddly Legion - have Destroyers, but only for Xenocide ops.

I guess they'd be most prominent in the RG, which developed them, and I'd imagine other Legions in which they'd be more numerous would be the Alphas, Death Guard, Iron Hands and World Eaters.

Obviously, each Legion would probably have a slightly different approach to Moritats - in the DG, they might lead formations of Destroyers, whereas in the Xth Legion my assumption is that they're individuals who's tendencies are too sociopathic / psycotic to operate effectively in a unit with other Legionaries, but are too effective in combat to be simply put down by the Legion's officers.

Cypher is just missing the rad grenades isn't he? Maybe the First Legion use a more chivalrous, Eco friendly Moritat. Or maybe Cypher ran out of rad grenades during the heresy :D

Lol hopefully we get some cool plasma relic to use on them. A suspensor web plasma cannon would be cool

I'd think World Eaters would use them, one of Kharns friends is a Destroyer at least, I can see berzerker like moritat figures.

The kind of moriat that budgeons his victims with the pistol instead of shooting them with it.

Treat them as Meteor Hammers for i6 S6-7 ws5 and 5 attacks or mauls for ap4 at i5 and 6 attacks.

Angrypantz - going on now from the information above, do you have an idea on the RoW you would like to use, whether you want to include Destroyers, use jump packs, foot slog, drop pods or mech based ?  This will help a lot to direct your army choice, each legion has its strengths and RoW's that will assist or hinder your choices.

Having read your comments it looks like I might be swayed to the side of Corax which I had actually never considered. I had thought of Ultramarines or Emperors Children, where one was censored for something and the other was a perfectionist in his chosen art. My idea for World Eaters would be at a point where there were few if any Moritats still around since I wanted to base them on those present at the Siegf of Terra but that might be put on the back burner for a little bit.

Thank you all for your feedback and help. I have a mkIV test mini assembled so I might be able to get some painting done this week and post it later.

So you could take an allied Salamanders Moritat? How the hell did I miss that?

this was changed with Legiones Astartes: Isstvan Campaign Legions, so .... it looks like ... yes you can oO

Moritat can't be the compulsory HQ, so... Naaaah.

Iron Hands would DEFINITELY have them. Let's be honest, the only reason they're classed as good guys is because we're told they are.

speaking of moritats, what would be best for an AL one? volkites or plasma? both for with alpharius for preferred enemy, and in an army without him.

The book 4 relic AL pistol would probably be a good addition. The other pistol could be a volkite or plasma either way since theres only one of them.

I had thought of Ultramarines or Emperors Children, where one was censored for something and the other was a perfectionist in his chosen art.

Hmm, an Emperor's Children Moritat, I can see him thinking of himself as a duelist like his sword-bearing brothers but of the later "walk twenty paces, turn and fire" sort. Or maybe he artistically choreographs his gunslinging in his head so that it appears like an elaborate dance, enhanced with ridiculous trickshots to show off his skills.

I can picture this guy corkscrewing through the air over the heads of an entire squad of hostile soldiers and planting perfect headshots on every single one of them, landing a perfect backflip befitting a Gold-winning Olympian Gymnast and then striking a pose.
