Beaten by the Green Tide!

Well my wolves suffered their second loss this weekend, To the green tide.

I played a friend who has played since rouge trader days. He is very skilled.

I have infact never beaten him.

It was pretty close.

Final score was 14 - 17, I was ahead until the last turn.

I had a few big set backs, that really effected the game.

turn 1 I lost my entire 5 bikes and rune priest.

I failed getting my power off to give then 4+ FNP, and I got too keen with them, which resulted in

them taking a turn 1 charge from 10 ork bikes including a pain boy a warboss and a nob i believe.

Turn 1 my Shield brothers formation held an objective on my side of the board, in retrospect my bikes should have held this.

In turn 2 the landraider got popped by 3 mega nobs.

The shiled brothers came out and cleaned up the squad of bikers the warboss and the rest.

But the orks moved most of the units away leaving the few remaining termies and arjac alone on that sdie of the board.

So in a total of 5 rounds of play they did nothing for three rounds.

My thunderwolf cav took out 2 deffcopters, a couple of units of 10 boys with a nob, x1 truk, x1 looted battle wagon but got taken out though mass firepower.

still they did their job well, soaked a lot of fire.

Storm Wolf died for the first time scoring me 4 points though through objective capture, but only managed to Imobilise 1 tank and kill some deffcopters.

In the end, what lost me the game was, moving to far forward and allowing the orks to charge me.

I think i got 1 charge off the entire game.

Losing my Landraider and bike unit without them doing anything was a massive blow.

I used both in the incorrect way, this really cost me.

I think at 1500 points Arjac and his shield brothers are just to many points. but i would have to try the list a few more times to get a better feel for what they can do.

For the same points I could add arjac plus x5 void claws, plus a full unit of hunters in a pod fully kitted out.

I could then drop the wolf lord (Harald) and take 5 plain TWC with upgrades and still have points for x2 predators with autocannons.

EDIT:

My list was.

x3 TWC all SS plus 1 TH.

x1 harald

X1 IP with x4 Cyber wolves

Arjacs Shield brothers.

x5 TH/SS termies

Arjac

Landraider with MM

x5 bikes, x2 combi melta and x1 PF

X1 LVL 2 rune priest.

Stormwolf, TWN linked MM.

At least you learned from the game.  It's frustrating when a unit gets taken out of the game just because it can't get anywhere to do something.  You could have brought your stormwolf over to fly them back into the fray though.  You said it did die though so maybe it wasn't an option.

Your list is good.  It is smaller which makes losing units that much difficult to rally from.  Especially playing against Orks as they are a horde army and can throw away units.

You'll get him next time.

I did have a funny moment.

I got a card that said if you have 3 units within 12 inches of the emeny table edge score d3 points.

He was like Ha you'll never do that. until he realised Harald and the thunderwolf Iron priest were Characters, so i just split them off from the Thunderwolf guy left over in the movement phase to get my points.

The funny thing was when i charged his battle wagon with all three and he over watched, he could only take shots against 1 of the models hahaha worked out well...

honestly i think against orks the void claws would work better.

they get to attack before the orks and do some real damage before they strike back.

its about 10-12 wounds average they do most of the time they would all but wipe put a unit before they strike back.

Definitely not enough TWC. If you want to run them, take at least one unit of at least 4-5 dudes. I played against the actual 100 buys Formation once and charged with one full unit of TWC, two IP and the Thunderlord. Worked well. One part of it was to never give him a charge. Orks are much like BA. They need to get that charge off. If you get it instead, the unit will be toast most of the time. You've noticed that first hand.

The other thing is that if you want to play Super Shield Bros, you need to build a list around them, at any point level. They are way to expensive to be thrown in just like that.

If you build around it, it can work just fine.

I've killed the green tide twice. Both times I split the Wolf Lord with WCs/RA/Wolfen Stone off from the  Wolf Star and assaulted one flank, while the wolf star assaulted the other flank. This force my opponent to stretch out and neutralized some of his attacks/powerclaws.
