donnieZizzle's Works in Progress

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I've been away from 40k for about a year now, and now that I've got some spare time and am close to a GW I've gotten back into 40k with a vengeance. So to try and keep myself going I wanted to start putting up works in progress here and get reactions and critiques from you guys. I was a member on Bolter and Chainsword years ago but I've since forgotten my password and use a new email address. So here it is!

I'm working on getting my Imperial Fists, a project that has been going for years, but I'm trying to dig in my heels and finish off some models. Here are the 5 that I've gotten finished in the last week.

I just saw that I forgot to finish the hair on one of these guys, and I need to practice with hand painting my Imperial Fist icon, as I've forgotten how to do it.

I've also started a Khorne Daemonkin army, as I've always loved Khorne and CC focused lists, but haven't seen one that really spoke to me until I saw the Bloodtithe rule. So I'm painting up so models I had lying around and am looking towards getting a few more models to get going.

I really love painting this combination of red and bone, and can't wait to really sink my teeth into it.

I finished my first possessed/chosen a few days ago. This weekend I'll finally have some time to sink my teeth into them. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out, although I need to brush up on my OSL technique.

I'm still trying to decide how to base my Daemonkin, although I'm leaning towards the Secret Weapon bases that have skulls and bones across them, with water effects blood flooding them. Also, I'm trying to decide if I need more weathering, or if I want to chip the armor at all. I'm not 100% happy with the Mark of Khorne I painted on his should.

Thanks Soric. I've started plugging away, mostly building this weekend, although I'm about half way done painting my second possessed. I also put together the possessed that having been sitting around in boxes for years now, so I've almost got a playable army.

I'm looking forward to the challenge of using greenstuff and miliput to turn loyalist assault marines into khorne berserkers.

I remembered to add the blood splatter after I took these pictures. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to finish another possessed. I'm really happy with how they're coming out, and they're a breath of fresh air after years of nothing but pristine loyalist marines, and most of them in yellow, the bane of my life as a painter.

I need to look into getting a better photo setup if I'm going to make this a regular thing. But I got some painting done (the boring first stages of highlighting the red, so no pictures), and I decided to start in on my Berserkers. After filing off the 3 chest-eagles, I decided that they all needed a little decoration. I think I'll add some more to the extended chest piece of the right-most. I'm also pondering if I'm brave enough to try and sculpt some piping on the leg armor. I'm also waiting for the arms to dry before I glue on  the should pads and start adding detailing to them. I also have an idea that all the infantry in this army is going to have horns, whether on their helmets or shoulder pads. Overall I'm pretty happy with how these guys are shaping up, although I'm about to have to start digging in my old bits box for some left-over chaos heads that managed to not get traded away.

  • 1 year later...

More progress on the Night Lords! I'm at about 95% with the second veteran. And I'm slowly chipping away at the rest of the squad. Sorry for the slightly out of focus pictures... I'm still figuring out the camera on my phone.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I've been doing the holiday thing for a few weeks, but I'm getting back into the swing of things. I haven't done much painting, mostly because I got lots of new toys for myself for Christmas, and decided that I would rather build all of my new toys!

My build list for this army, at least so far, includes the following:

Praetor built using the limited edition Vexilarius

Centurion converted from the centurion included in the BaC box, although I've still got to decide on the CCW he will have

3 Apothecaries (I've only got the two from FW so far, I've yet to figure out my third one)

2 Veteran Squads, each with 2 melta guns and a sergeant with a Night Glaive

3 Terror Squads with Chargers and a Headhunter with a Night Glaive (lots of work left to build these guys)

2 Tactical Support Squads with Culverins (I've only built one of the two squads I've purchased)

1 Heavy Support Squad with Lascannons (I have the weapons from FW, but haven't bought the tactical squad box yet)

Most of the army has yet to receive chains or skull adornments. And the final bit I haven't purchased yet: 3 Xyphons

I'm pretty stoked about my character selection so far, although I'm considering switching out the apothecaries' chainswords for Night Glaives (if I'm going to build all the sergeants with fluffy weapons, maybe I should just go whole hog)

And a shot of the army build so far

And finally, the only guys I've started painting to date

Let me know what you guys think of the composition. I've also got the 10 terminators from 2 BaC boxes. Any ideas on other things to build are always appreciated. I'm not a huge fan of the raptors, and suggestions for models to use as counts as (with lots of night glaives, of course) would be very welcome.
