Adepticon Titanicus

Recommended Posts

I've seen a few pictures and videos of the Adepticon Titanicus match from Adepticon 2015.  I couldn't find a copy of this year's ruleset, but here is a link to the 2014 offering.  This looks insanely fun, and would be a great reason for me to get off my behind and follow through on some plans for a Titan of my own.  I hope it expands next year to include even more Titan classes!

Was anyone here involved or participating?  What were your impressions?

The only video I found was linked above.  Here's another write-up.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down any play-by-plays for either 2014 or 2015.

I know what you mean, Radu - my project has been on the shelf for a while simply because it's nothing more than a display piece.  I've always had too much work to do for actual tabletop miniatures that I haven't been able to spare any time for it.  If Adepticon Titanicus is offered again in 2016 - especially if they expand the ruleset a bit - then that would be more than enough motivation.  A display piece is one thing, but to actually see it stomp around a city...  count me in!

With the impending release of Forge World's Mars-pattern Warlord Titan, I hope that the organizers of Adepticon Titanicus expand their ruleset to include it!  The more engines, the better!

I'd love to see the reenactment of a major Legio offensive, like the events of Titanicus.  Or include an Imperium vs. Orks match for the Third War for Armageddon - there was an Imperium vs. Eldar match last year that looked like a lot of fun!

With all of my excitement over HH IV, I decided to drop the Adepticon Titanicus team a line.  The response:

Without question we’ll be allowing Warlords into at least the Chaos versus Imperial and/or Horus Heresy Titanicus battles.

This is going to be very interesting!

Oh yeah!
I hope there's more footage and write ups for the next one!
If they are using the old Titanicus battles then there will be a huge amount of options for a Warlord player from fast nimble lightly shielded close combat Nightgaunts to ponderous slow Nemesis builds.

If you haven't noticed, registration for Adepticon 2016 is open.  I missed my window and only managed to register for the Friday and Sunday Titanicus events.  I'm waitlisted for Thursday and Saturday - hopefully someone drops out or more slots are added!

Here is my report for Adepticon Titanicus 2016.  Thank you very much to the event organizers - Matt, Dave, Dave and Sam.  This was easily the most fun I've ever had with 40K, and that's saying something.

The Imperial objective is to destroy buildings and run off the far end of the map. The Eldar objective is to kill us. Things did not go as planned.

Canis Leto cautiously deployed behind a building. The Eldar rapidly advance into our deployment zone on the first turn, exposing themselves to megabolter fire.

Our Titans are quickly surrounded and engaged in melee.

A few turns later, the Warlord on the left flank has been cut down. Canis Leto manages to escape and destroy a building, before turning back for the final round. The game ended when this poor Reaver was also destroyed. Victory to the Eldar, 20-13.

Pre-game huddle for Friday's game: Imperium versus Chaos.

http://i.imgur.com/hQU7MoYl.jpg

This is the objective - a Dark Mechanicus Manufactorum sitting in the enemy backfield. The Imperial Titans must destroy it, while the Chaos Titans must stop us.

http://i.imgur.com/wb3vfBZl.jpg

Canis Leto deploys alongside two Reavers, Iron Judgement and Edwardo, and an unnamed Lucius-pattern Warlord.

http://i.imgur.com/lghyFmal.jpg

The Chaos Titans are arrayed in a sweeping line across the battlefield, and move in to surround us. The Warlord, being the heaviest class, moves first. This allows the faster engines the ability to react to everyone else.

http://i.imgur.com/7jkytmVl.jpg

Canis Leto charges forward into the midst of the enemy. "Looks like a Warhound is going to die" remarks an observer.

http://i.imgur.com/uNWiMHdl.jpg

The benefit of scouring the rulebook. Overcharged Engines allows a Titan to move twice at the expense of sacrificing the next round of shooting. Canis Leto sprints an impressive 72" through a gap in the enemy formation, catching the Chaos forces completely by surprise.

http://i.imgur.com/fZcGM1Ul.jpg

A vicious firefight erupts between the larger engines as Canis Leto moves to sweep around behind the objective.

http://i.imgur.com/JdBqy2Hl.jpg

The chase begins - Canis Leto continues its circumambulation of a nearby Void Shield Generator. A Chaos Warhound moves to intercept, but can't turn quickly enough.

http://i.imgur.com/yRPVBWwl.jpg

The Imperial Reavers continue to advance while the Warlord takes up a firing position. Iron Judgement, the Reaver of Legio Crucius on the left, loses an arm in the bombardment.

http://i.imgur.com/JMKWkccl.jpg

First blood! The heavily-damaged Iron Judgement claims a spectacular engine kill against the Chaos Reaver that maimed it.

http://i.imgur.com/owcVel2l.jpg

Canis Leto circles the Void Shield Generator and is confronted by its Chaos counterpart. It ignores the immediate threat and focuses on stripping the shields of the objective in the background.

http://i.imgur.com/0tK0Z7Bl.jpg

Iron Judgement loses its other arm and carapace weapon. Bleeding oil from mangled joints, it throws itself at the enemy as Edwardo advances through the smoke towards the Manufactorum.

http://i.imgur.com/OcTSxjxl.jpg

Canis Leto continues to hammer the objective, tearing it down to its final structure point as the enemy fully realizes its miscalculation. Weapon hardpoints readjust and bracket the brave Warhound.

http://i.imgur.com/sDIzPREl.jpg

Canis Leto cracks open the Manufactorum with its dying breath. Its duty done, a volcano cannon shot from the distant Reaver takes its legs out from beneath it.

http://i.imgur.com/NnqLJ3rl.jpg

Its sacrifice, however, is not in vain. The Imperial Warlord is finally in range and targets the weakened building.

http://i.imgur.com/I4kucIsl.jpg

The Manufactorum collapses under a hail of turbolaser and volcano cannon fire. The Reavers continue to grapple amongst the ruins, but the execution is a success. Victory to the Imperium, 6-5.  Iron Judgement is unanimously named the team MVP for its bravery.

The Horus Heresy

Saturday, 02 April

This is the big night - with the Team Tournaments nearing completion, this match had the greatest turnout of the three. The group included three Warlords, three Reavers and 5 Warhounds. This is going to get messy.

http://i.imgur.com/5oc1WdEl.jpg

The Traitor Titans deploy in one corner of the map, tasked with exiting on the opposite corner. The Loyalist Titans deploy in two groups on either flank. Canis Leto takes up position with three larger Titans of Legio Crucius on the right flank - Reavers Iron Judgement and Primaris Secutar, and Warlord Domitor Fortis.

http://i.imgur.com/dvqsQ4bl.jpg

Team Green, veterans of previous engagements, deploys on the left flank.

http://i.imgur.com/OAVbpCfl.jpg

The Traitor Titans advance on Team Green.

http://i.imgur.com/wgA4qR6l.jpg

Smelling opportunity, Canis Leto attempts another daring maneuver on the right flank.

http://i.imgur.com/YpAKfMjl.jpg

Suddenly, the distant horizon is lit with flames.

http://i.imgur.com/48hWY8zl.jpg

Team Green claims first blood on the enemy Warhound Wrath - the fusillade was so intense that no Princeps felt right accepting the honor personally.

http://i.imgur.com/aohhku1l.jpg

Not so with Legio Crucius. Domitor Fortis proudly claims a kill on an imposing warehouse.

http://i.imgur.com/I764GEdl.jpg

After sustaining damage from an errant foam dice, Canis Leto takes its frustration out on a neighboring high-rise. It takes it down a structure point, but more importantly gains some added ground on the enemy engines.

http://i.imgur.com/fJSeOiil.jpg

Legio Crucius continues to rid the Imperium of the domicile menace, reducing the enemy's cover to rubble.

http://i.imgur.com/oZzejrHl.jpg

On the left flank, the three Warhounds of Team Green charge their Traitor counterpart Venatrix Nocturna. Lux lands a headbutt, cracking Venatrix's cockpit armor, but the buildings are completely unchecked.

http://i.imgur.com/Q09fn6Cl.jpg

Betrayal! Iron Judgement unfurls the bloody banner of the Warmaster and fixes its guns on the unprotected rear of the Loyalist Warlord!

http://i.imgur.com/jQAYJzJl.jpg

Canis Leto rushes around the hab and unloads into the rear of the Traitor Warlord Janice, collapsing several void shields.

http://i.imgur.com/7Yn1Rfkl.jpg

Curses and damnation!  Lux unloads into its own brethren!

http://i.imgur.com/Kii6JL2l.jpg

The Traitor Warlords continue their advance, sprinting towards the distant corner.

http://i.imgur.com/Zij4gtBl.jpg

Canis Leto charges an offensive, overly-decorated archway, closing the distance as quickly as possible.

http://i.imgur.com/yfTza61l.jpg

The left flank degenerates into a vicious melee between Venatrix, Lux and Team Green.

http://i.imgur.com/czh579Dl.jpg

Heavily-damaged, the Traitor Warlord Janice makes a dash for the endzone with Canis Leto at its heels. Venatrix Nocturna disengages from combat with Team Green and moves to intercept.

http://i.imgur.com/2FOObT1l.jpg

Teamwork in action. Canis Leto strips Janice's remaining shields and damages its leg armor.  Domitor Fortis follows up by tearing off its arm and blowing out its kneecap. Engine kill!

http://i.imgur.com/QCKns4cl.jpg

Canis Leto charges yet another offending building and stamps it to the ground, swinging around through the Traitors' field of fire.

http://i.imgur.com/aBHaixvl.jpg

Team Green brings down the traitorous Lux, their machine spirits braying in bloodlust. At this point, the Traitors cannot manage enough VPs to draw and the game ends. Victory to the Loyalists!

I'm very much looking forward to 2017!

Thanks, for the battle report! I live about 20 minutes from where Adepticon is held but sadly wasn't able to make it this year, and so have been searching the nets for pretty pictures. It's awesome to see Dave Taylor's Legio Crucius Force assembled together.

Next year though, I'll hopefully be bringing the Red Comet.

I'll go ahead and call dibs on being on your side. tongue.png It will be great to see Red Comet walk after watching your progress for so long!

That's a good question. I noticed after deployment that the forces were a little... lopsided. Two Warlords and two Warhounds on the Traitor side versus one Warlord, three Reavers and four Warhounds on the Loyalist side. Oh well, everyone was running around with Janice's grand unveiling and many of us had been drinking. Maybe it was an oversight.

The Princeps of Iron Judgement, was very happy about being placed with two other Titans from the same Legio. The Traitors themselves had three from Legio Fureans, so it was shaping up to be a rather good grudge-match between them. Right when the battle group on the right flank was about to execute our plan, he called all of us to attention and announced that Alpharius had made him a better offer. blink.png In the next turn, Lux made a similar announcement and charged his former comrades instead of Venatrix. After that, we really didn't know who would turn and who wouldn't.

It really shouldn't have come as a surprise, given that it was a Horus Heresy themed event. The fact that it caught us all so off-guard is a testament to how much work the organizers (Matt, Dave, Dave and Sam) put into their scenario and in wrangling the players.

There was a similar mechanic in Thursday's Knight Spearhead event, but all of the turncoats had already been destroyed by the Traitors before they could reveal themselves.
