30k Music

I'm sure that this has come up before, but I'm trying to get together a nice playlist to go through when it's time for the ETL, and I was wondering if the frater would like to help with good music suggestions for inspiring that Great Crusade/Horus Heresy era feelings.

This is a current favourite for me:

I have a few, some may agree, some may not which is understandable as we all have different tastes or they may not fit

Five Finger Death Punch - Battle Born

Green Day - Working Class Hero

Rise Against - Prayer of the Refugee maybe?

Other potential bands:

Seether

SOAD (or solo Serj Tankian)

Three Days Grace

Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos (album)

The Living End

I hope this helps, if not, well I tried

My only straight up suggestion for general music is It Has Begun by Starset, although depending on legion you can usually find music applying to them. I personally like painting to a mix from Unforgiving, Unforseen But I know that not all people like that music.

Maybe

Centuries by Fall out boy

Gods and Kings by Finding Iris

I'm a fan of dream evil and sabaton. Chosen one screams marines to me.

I've also recently gotten into destroyed beyind belief, heroes never die is very fitting.

A random song that always get me thinking of the heresy is chop suey! The second half of the song always get me thinking about the scene where horus and his entourage are fighting free of the interex.

Chop Suey always made me think of the Heresy back before the book series ever came out, back when the only information came from the old 'Fluff Bible'

Which reminds me of another one that used to make me think of the heresy

It could be considered appropriate for either side imo

I Prevail- Love, Lust And Liars

great beat and chorus

I Prevail- The enemy

just makes me want to rip out throats

Dance Gavin Dance- Honey Revenge

the 3rd verse makes me paint like a legend

Northlane- World Eater

do I say anymore?

StoneSour- Through glass

For when I'm working on my iron warriors

Bring Me The Horizon- Can you feel my heart

Adds depth to my ideas when I'm pondering fluff

In Hearts Wake- Sky dancer

It's my favourite song ever

In hearts wake- BIA (the hanged man)

Sort of works as a intermedium

A Skylit Drive- My Disease

Using this to work on my iron warriors aswell

Dream on Dreamer- Blinded

Another one that just gets me in the mood to hobby :cuss up

Nortlane- Dream awake

If I had butchers nails this is how I feel it would be

In hearts wake- loreley (the lovers)

Just makes me think rage with serendipity

House vs hurricane- blood knuckles

Once again want to stomp :cuss into the ground

And last but not least

The amity affliction- Youngbloods

My list is simply to pump me up and get the rage stocked but maintained to the point where I'm not hating everyone and everything.

Music is personal and I find alot of my songs are how I perceive the feelings of the 30k universe

The first song that comes to mind is I am machine, by Three Days Grace. I haven´t really listened to their music at all, but I heard this one the other day and the first thing I thought of was Mechanicum/Iron Hands.

My two favorite albums of all time also remind me a bit about life in 30k, The Protomen (aka Act I) and Act II: The Father of Death. These two go hand in hand since they tell the story of Tomas Light, the creator of Mega Man, and listening to them in the wrong really won´t do them justice. I´m not a big fan of Mega Man, but the story told through music in these two albums is just fantastic and really inspiring. The first album are the events just before and during the original Mega Man story, but expanded upon and made a lot more dark and gritty. And the second album is set several years before and is about how and why Dr Light and Dr Wily created robots and the events that led up to Dr Wily gaining control of the city.

Long story short, I love these albums and they are definitely worth a listen if you like music that tells a story. biggrin.png

If you have Spotify I recommend you listen to it there since the only Youtube versions I could find have all the songs mashed up into one video instead of a playlist.

The Protomen:

Act II: The Father of Death

Pretty much all Sabatons songs go really well with any kind of Warhammer, both 30k, 40k and Fantasy. The Carolus Rex album (especially the swedish versions of the songs) fit pretty good with my picture of the Imperial Army.
Btw, I´d love to see the full 30k playlist once you´re done, I´m always looking for new things to listen to! happy.png

Edit: For some reason the second link won´t show up as a youtube window for me, anyone know how to fix that?

Well I was listening to Otherwise Soldiers when I came across this thread. I have DimDim to thank for that, since I first heard it in his Fists thread. I quite like Amon Amarth Varyags of Miklagaard.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Unforgiven yet. Seems ever so slightly suited to a certain First Legion.

Don't let them catch you saying that, they are, as they would like ALL to know, COMPLETELY LOYAL, and DEFINATELY HAD NO TRAITERS. NONE. AT ALL.

And so this comment has some relevance to music...

Nosferatu by Bloodbound (largely NL but I just find it nice music for the grimdark of 30/40k)

Misery's Crown by Dark Tranquility

Unlike the others, I think the following theme (Letting Go by Patrick Doyle) best fits the end of the Horus Heresy, rather than during any battle.

I believe this theme best suits the final moments before the Emperor takes his place on the Golden Throne.  The opening few seconds could show a wounded Rogal Dorn taking the Emperor's broken body to the Golden Throne, as the ominous pounding of daemons trying to breach the Human Webway's flawed defenses gradually grows louder.  At around 0:38, The Emperor tries to say his last words to those present, but he is cut-off mid-sentence as the Golden Throne activates, the Human Webway's defenses are restored, and the banging sounds fade, signalling a daemonic retreat.

At around 0:58, you get to see Astartes and Auxilia (30k Guardsmen) alike picking themselves out of the rubbled portions of the Imperial Palace, assisted by the newly-arrived Loyalist reinforcements of the Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, etc. including Dreadnoughts who for now don't mind being turned into impromptu construction vehicles.

Soon, a solemn procession of bloodied and battered Space Marines, in charred and pitted power armour that is still recognizably red,  passes by on the way into the Imperial Palace, carrying what appears to be an unusually large litter.  With the litter's passage, many Auxilia become aghast at the sight of what the litter carries, some falling to their knees in shock.  Then the Space Marines among their number start removing their helmets and bowing their heads in respect, along with onlooking dreadnoughts doing their best to bow (tilt their torsos forward), for the litter carries the corpse of Sanguinius, his hands forming the sign of the Aquila on his chest on top of his broken sword, point down, like so many medieval coffin lids.

Even the surviving loyalist Primarchs present bow their heads, partly in shame and self-recrimination, at the sight.  Maybe even a few shed a tear at the magnitude of this loss and their inability to save either their gene-father or his best of sons.  This scene is effectively the very first Sanguinala--the yearly festival on Terra which commemorates the date of Sanguinius' martyrdom.

I don't believe we were ever told just where Sanguinius' corpse was interred.  I'm sure there were many who wanted him laid to rest alongside the Emperor on Terra (which is where he was martyred), but it's equally certain that many Blood Angels wanted him repatriated to his homeworld of Baal.  Is it spelled out in canon just where Sanguinius' corpse was taken?
