First Xenos contact?

Nothing unites humans like killing other humans.

Nothing unites humanity like killing Xenos.

When we run out of Xenos...what do we have left?

Other. Galaxies.

And thus humanity becomes the Tyranids

Except, instead of trying to consume them to turn into biomass, we'd just exterminatus them from the get go and when the nuclear winter subsides, recolonize over their cold, long-forgotten ashes.

Then we'd just gut the planet(s) and move on.

According to Betrayal, Imperial forces encountered "alien invaders" on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Judging by the fact that the Moon and Mars were human affairs, I'd say this was likely the first instances of Imperial contact with xenos.

For some reason the hrud keep popping into mind for this.

Is the question about 30k universe after great crusade, or just generally ever?

Convenient the Hrud may be as candidates, I doubt it was them. Judging by Dantioch's experiences with them, having Hrud in the Sol system would be pretty bad (with all the weird entropy effects they cause for some reason).

The OP's question specifies the dark age of technology, so that would be before even Imperial liberation of Sol and the fall of mankind's first golden age. I would wager, somewhere in the annals of Old Fluff, it probably says Orks or Eldar. They're the oldest of foes for humanity in the Warhammer 40k game - they've been around since pretty much day one.

I remember a quote from Rogue Trader stating that from the moment humans and orks met they looked at eachother and did not like what they saw.

Best bet would be that the species first encountered by humans did not make it to the 30th millennium. If I had to choose a second guess it would probably be orks.

I should have worded the thread title better but my question was about the first Xenos contact ever, the first species met by humanity after leaving Terra for the first time.

Also interesting to know what the first species encountered by the Imperium was though

Orks certainly would have been a bit of a shock, although not quite as terrifying as the Eldar I'd assume. Orks are sentient ('ish) and walk on two legs, and obviously their size and savagery in battle would be terrifying,  but their bestial nature sort of blunts the edge a little bit, you could possibly reason that they're animals and deal with them as such.

I think the apparent 'humanity' and initial similarity of the Eldar, whilst being completely alien, would be much more unsettling for the human mind to deal with,  and that's before the capture and torture starts.

The Hrud, after Graham Mcneill fleshed them out more in Gods of Mars, would have been err...complicated.

I've always thought that actually meeting a Xenos breed for the first time, especially for a regular human someone with no prior knowledge, would be harder to deal with than anything the Warp could throw at you because anything Chaos spawned would have a certain similarity, even if it's from your worst nightmare. It would be so shocking and surreal you'd almost treat it as a living nightmare, whereas an alien would be so tangible and exotic and 'wrong', the fear would be much more primal, they're the ultimate 'unknown' that our primitive ape brains evolved to keep us the hell away from.

Then again, if you had no prior knowledge of Xenos or Chaos, and someone summoned a daemon in front of you, I'm not sure the difference would matter too much.

It would have been back in the mists of the Golden Age of Technology prior to the Dark Age and the Age of Strife. Probably much more star trek like and peaceful. And they are probably extinct from a subsequent human-xenos war. RE the Eldar. Remember at their height even mankind in full resplendent technological advancement was nothing but a bug and ignored along with all the other races.

What about the Jokaero? They seem to be the only xeno species that we don't seem hell bent on destroying. Would be an intresting introduction to xenos.

Btw, I'm glad they moved the Hrud away from Skavens in space, as much as I love the Skaven. I think I'm going to make a Hrud at some point, but no one here will ever know....

Everyone forget the 30k worth of history

The last what 5k was the warp storms I want to say a dark angel book said about 5k since they lost connection to terra

So that leaves 23k worth of history and who is to say that it was not just Star Trek and the iron men was all Data's fault

All jokes aside 25000 years is lifer then the imperium is now
