So Typhon got a great buff with the Scythe upgrade. Between Rad grenades, the bombardment, denying scoring units and some psychic support he seems a tremendously ubiquitous HQ now. He was only really lacking in the best stick department and he is a lot better at that now!

I know 1000Sons is pretty pumped about it.

Mostly since the apoc games we've played have included Curze meaning T1 Night Fight which would result in the marines part of the RoW (should he run in the future) having a 4+ Cover in the Open.

It also doesnt restrict any Deepstriking or whatever so you can Pod in some stuff like a Leviathan.

I know it's only supposed to be a bonus of the rite, but the chem bombardment only affecting forests etc is just pure lame.

Ruins are most 40k tables, hell, all of GWs scnerey for it is ruins.

Its just so situational :(

Imma just straight up say that when me and 1000sons talked about the Rite, we'd let the Chem Bombardment affect any type of terrain because if they have Chemicals that can turn organic material into goo, they have chemicals that can turn inorganic material into goo.

Besides, how many people actively play on Forest/Swamp/Jungle only boards?

Its a Houserule but for the sake of actual fun? Yeah.

Yeah, I'm legit curious why they changed the actual LA:DG rule for the exact same reason of being too situational, only to bring it back (arguably worse) with the RoW.

Exactly. In house, makes sense to change it.

Competitively, it's basically a.... Rite... Off.... :biggrin.:

I mean the other benefits more than make up for it I think. Especially if you take lots of missile launchers to take advantage of the stronger frag missiles and grenades.

I'm going to be starting my own Death Guard army using the calth box set soon. I'm going to be aiming for a more elite based force first and eventually add in more basic troop choices later.

So, uh, yeah.

Looking at the DG Character PRofiles during the apoc game last weekend, noticed that only Typhon and Mortarion have Invulnerable Saves? Whats up with that?

I'd say because Crysos Morturg is a rank and file Marine so wouldn't be given anything too exotic (and he was shunned by his Primarch). Durak Rask I'm not sure, considering he was a Siege Breaker and thus a Captain of some sort, but he's not a great choice anyhow, especially because he doesn't actually bring any of the advantages a Siege Breaker would to the table from what I recall.

Honestly, you're better off basing a Death Guard army off of either The Reaping or one of the generic ones, as the new one is so situational and subpar I doubt most would even consider using it at all... if you have to house rule it to make one of it's major features work, then it's not that good to begin with.

A week without posts?

For shame my fellow Hardy sons!

So, how do we think we can make the new rite WORK. Outside of changing the rules.

5+ in the open is pretty good! Can a Vigilator take cameleoline? Because a chunky unit covered by a vigilators super cover save Could be nice!

Does the right of war allow you to have marine allies? If so then something to look into is taking a night lords allied detachment with the terror assualt row. It'll give you guaranteed night fight allowing you to stealth on your units. The investment isn't too bad either.

I was wondering - rule changes to EC and White Scars make giving sergeants spears a great idea- can the same be said for our sarges having power scythes?  Is it a points sink (like plasma pistols) or actually a worthwhile investment?  Does it work better for some units?  e.g worthwhile on outriders, but not on say, tacticals?  Only worth it on units with rad grenades?

I think it's actually a good idea on a sergeant now. You can't instagib someone like you can with a power fist, but you'll usually get more attacks and if you end up in a challenge against another sergeant armed with an axe or fist you have a good chance of killing them before they hit you back.
