Injuries, mishaps, and all around bad stuff.

So many bad ones to read about >.<

I was cutting the feet loose from bases on a number of models I'd been working on and wanted to re-place. I slipped and cut into my thumb at an angle right down the center on the print side sliced through about an inche and a half of meat in a split second. Honestly I probably should have torn it the rest of the way off it was just hanging there. Bled like a stuck pig for hours when I finally gave up and super glued myself back together. Kept peeling it off and replacing the glue for about 2 weeks (it was still bleeding whenever the blood worked its way around the glue). Finally stopped bleeding and 9 months later I finally got feeling back on that side of my thumb. It's now almost 5 years later and the scars completely gone.

I still cut towards myself.

My left hand has oh so many scars on the fingers, and my right is relatively scar-free… I'm fairly certain that this is due to the fact that I'm right-handed and my right hand is always the one wielding the knife!

It's almost amusing when you show up at the Emergency Room and say, "I need stitches," and the desk nurse says, "Well, we will see about that…" Then, when you show them the gash you've cut in your hand, they finally admit, "OH. You're right… You need stitches."

It was slightly more amusing when I was admiring the stitches the doctor was sewing, because I thought that his technique might be useful for leather working… but that's not quite related.

I mentioned them in my Queen Bee thread already, but I'll shoot. That project is cursed...

First, I left the model test fitted on my standing desk one day, and my cat decided she needed to drink my dirty paint water. I went into my room and didn't see my Queen, but I thought my fiancée had taken her to tease me (she wanted me to come to bed but I had hobby to work on...). I turned around to go yell at her go to bed and I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I looked down and my Knight's heavily converted and oh-so-carefully painted legs and torso were all over the carpet. Broke the hip I'd sculpted, the bar around the rear of the hips where I'd attached a little chain ladder, and a cargo hook on the back of the torso. Could have been a lot worse, but it broke my project mojo for weeks. I really liked that chain...

A month or two later, my daughter told me (way too casually) that she saw smoke in my hobby room. I was like "uh-huh, that's nice" (did I mention she sounded way too casual?) but she was all "Seriously, dad" and I got up to look. Turns out, a free-standing magnifying lens was focusing the rays of the sun and had been burning a channel into my particle board painting station... And the shin armor and base of my Knight. It melted the armor pretty well, and as luck would have it, it melted the base right in a spot that made for a really cool special effect I never would have tried otherwise. The Emperor works in mysterious ways.

Then, a week or so later, I was dumb enough to make the exact same mistake and I came home one day to find a much longer furrow burned into my painting station. I'm honestly lucky it didn't flat-out burn the house down.
