reckoning
Where's a good place to buy one in the states? I'll be using it for both hobby and home stuff. On my way to Home Depot but wasn't sure they had a good selection. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306328-dremel/ Share on other sites
Carlson793
I've always hit WalMart, Target, Meijers... most discount department stores have an area with a good selection of accessories, including the rotary tool itself. Stoic Raptor
I've been trying to find a small, variable speed version - cordless is OK. I thought they made such a model but can't seem to locate it. Brother Tyler
I recommend checking out the selection of models and options at the Dremel site and then ordering the specific items you desire from your local store (most home improvement stores carry them, as well as major retail stores). Nykidemus
Avoid the hell out of the cordless dremel. The battery pack falls out at the drop of a hat, and barely has any charge or torque. I eventually upgraded to this guy http://shop.prox-tech.com/c/hand-held-power-tools-115-v_precision-rotary-tool-fbs-115-e and it's glorious. The only problem is that all of the rotary tools have minimum speeds in the several thousand RPM range, and it's more than enough to melt plastic. I've been thinking about picking up a power screwdriver that has a 250-500 RPM range for pinning and such. Wulf Vengis
THREADOMANCY POWERS ACTIVATE! (Was that bad form?) I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on a brand or model that might be decent for the hobbyist on a budget? I would be looking to spend about 30$USD... 40 if i absolutely must. The tool would only be used for the purposes of modeling as I've met a small pile of impasses that require drilling and/or filing. I have to second that question because im tired of using my drillbit and I literally magnetize EVERYTHING. So some precision drilling power tool would be helpful. Brother Tyler
If you search Amazon.com for rotary tools, you'll find several options on the lower end of price. As previously posted, I recommend something with variable speed - I generally use 5,000 rpm for plastic applications, but I still have to be careful so that the plastic doesn't melt. Gordon Shumway
If you just want it for drilling, you could use a cordless electric screwdriver. Not sure on the rpms, but I would guess considerably lower than a rotary tool. Nykidemus
That's basically what they told me when I spoke with Proxon (a rotary tool company) about it. They recommended a power screwdriver.
