Rough Rider Discussion

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the fact that new models would go a long way, I think a points drop is essential especially after they went up for no change! I'd give them T4 and at least the option for carapace, maybe an improvement to WS - perhaps just on the charge? I'd also have either a secondary unit type or give them the option to swap the lances for some form of gun to make them dragoons. That'd be cool.

Oh, and give us back Mogul Kamir damn it.

Funny I should stumble across this thread now, I was pondering the idea of a Regiment completely opposed to the usual "hold-the-line-and-die-standing" modus operandi of the Guard in the form of a mobility-focused offense-oriented regiment that are a mix of Armageddon Steel Legion and Elysian Drop Troopers with a bit of the flavour of the original mongolian-styled Rough Riders.

Rough Riders on ATVs as the dominant troops with Armoured Fist squads in Chimeras, supported by Sentinels, Hellhounds, Elysian Tauros IFVs, Taurox Armoured Cars, Valykries and Vultures, anything that can keep up with their relentless pace.

The regiment would exist simply to do one of the things humanity truely does best, adapt, beat the enemy at their own game. Ork Speek Freakz, Craftworld Windrider Hosts, Dark Eldar Reavers, Tau Fire Cadres, any foe that prides themselves and focuses their tactics around their speed and manuverability would be this regiment's preferred opponents, because theres nothing, NOTHING sweeter than proving Mankind's natural superiority over the Xenos in all aspects. devil.gif

Guard haven't been stuck as gun line for a long time, being not just capable of mobility but also needing it in many cases.

Sorry for resurrecting such a dead thread, but this is the most appropriate place to ask.

I was watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade the other day, and thought that a good way to do rough riders would be WW2 German Bikers modded with lances.

Any  idea on how I can do that?

Pffft...that's easy!  Bolt Action Miniatures has them, you probably need to keep the legs of the driver, and slap on the appropriate upper bodies and weapons from your army...

I'm planning on doing a similarly styled force of doods on bikes for my Chem Dogs, but with more of a Mad Max vibe. Bolt Action models are more Truescale, so while they're the same height as GW bits, the bulk of the models is lessened. You'd probably need to dig around to find parts that would fit in at that scale without them having Privateer Press Proportion Syndrome.

Anyone have a listing of Sci Fi mini companies? It's bugging me that I can't remember the mane of the ones I'm looking for.

"Hair of the Male Lion Miniatures," perhaps?

Funny, I meant names. My keyboard does funky things sometimes.

Here is one.

Victoria Miniatures makes some great stuff. You just need to provide the mounts!

Victoria is one that I can always remember, there's one that makes some really cool space marine/stormtrooper models and it's war-something, and it's not warmill.

I think the Empire horsemen or even the Demigryph Knights could work well. They look pretty good in their armour and all. I don't think it would be hard to convert with Cadian bits. You can easily get away with using the standard legs in those kits too, just say they have special / unique armour because they ride horses. Also, all the parts you need would be in there, lances, etc

Eventually I'll do some up.
