Fangbanger
Hi just looking for a little clarification and I am sure it us me being stupid! Legion fac squad can change its bolters for a combat blade or chainsword thus, with the bolt pistol, grants an additional attack for having 2 close combat weapons yes? So why would you want to then give them an additional combat blade for 2 points a head? What benefit does that bring? Sorry if this is stupid and has been brought up before Cheers! Kizzdougs
Because that way you have a bolter, bolt pistol, and combat weapon. If you take the free swap, you lose the bolter. infyrana
You also might be WE and sport chain axes, but want bolters for fury of the legion. Is it true grit in 40k? DG and SW used to get all three weapons for their benefits. Leif Bearclaw
Not quite. True Grit was on old rule the 3rd ed Wolf book and Daemonhunter-era GKs had, that allowed to to use a bolter instead of a pistol to claim the +1A for 2 ccws, but you never got bonus attacks for charging. Then in 5th they just gave Grey Hunters an actual pistol to go with the bolter and ccw, which was better all round, and in recognition of this the combo was sometimes called 'Ultra Grit'. Plague Marines still get it, but Grey Hunters have to pay points for the extra ccw under the 7th ed Wolf book. Olis
Man, I wish all space marines had a bolter, bolt pistol and a CCW. To me it makes sense (fluffwise) to have a primary armament, a backup pistol and a blade. GrandMagnus
Man, I wish all space marines had a bolter, bolt pistol and a CCW. To me it makes sense (fluffwise) to have a primary armament, a backup pistol and a blade. Ideed. Its hard to imagine anybody saying "No brother Brutus, you do NOT get to bring your knife to the tight confines of this boarding action. Your bolt pistol with limited ammo will be enough." Its ridiculous to say humanities greates warriors have limited wargear when it comes to pistols and knives. spu00sed
I believe the reason is to make assault marines more useful in assaults, than tactical marines. As they get an extra attack over the tacticals. Olis
Meh. I'm happy if the advantage Assault squads have over Tacticals is the jump packs (and CCW options). Basically, they'd be trading in weapon reach for mobility, which is how it should be imo. A space marine in close combat is Emperor-damned deadly, jump pack or otherwise. Fangbanger
Ah perfect that clears it up. For some reason I was reading it as the option to take all guns away for 2 close combat weapons but now it makes sense Oooops!
