Prot
Well I made a big mistake, and bought a bunch of Grey Knights and instantly regretted it... It seems I'm already locking into monochromatic lists. .. I think this is bad and it kind of goes back to that thread about 'limitations'..... So I'm forcing myself out of my comfort zone. I have no idea what I will be facing, but at 1850 the coles notes version is going to look like this: 2 libbies (with some toys) 2 x 5 Termies with the usual 6 (?) I think - Interceptors - fairly basic 2 loaded NDK's. NEW: Stormraven: Assault Cannon (as per advice - I'll try anything once). Multimelta, and yes... Hurricane bolters, and TP homer. 10.. yes.. 10 Purifiers. Some toys, not much.. hammer, incinerator. So the idea is I have to assume I will be fighting a very annoying spammy shooting army. (It's all the rage around here). That's all I have to go on, so here's what I'm thinking: - Being an idiot, I'm living on luck, rolling for normal reserves, with no help from comms, etc. - I probablly really need turn 1 because I have too many points (I'm assuming) wrapped up in reserves. - For the above reason, I'm thinking of putting everything else on the table? (except terminators UNLESS a Libby or both get GATE) - Stormraven strategy: Unless I come in later than turn 2, I imagine taking 2 turns to let the guys use the assault ramp is preferable? if I come in after turn 2, I assume I want to jump out and use the Teleport homer. I still feel uncomfortable with the list, but I hope to do a quick batrep afterwards (probably won't take pictures tonight.) Wish me luck... and may the Emperor guide my Stormraven on turn 2! Aethernitas
If that list is already forcing yourself out of your comfort zone you're really fast to stake those out I think the list is perfectly fine - most of it you are already familiar with and know how to use so changing a small contingent to try something new is exactly the way I do it too. The core of the army looks super solid and the purifiers in the Raven are as valid as anything you could pick for those points. Just be sure to combatsquad them which I'm sure you were planning to do anyway. Personally I'm not a fan of the hurricane bolters especially if you carry troops with the Raven. On a empty Raven used purely as gunship those may be worth a try.If you really want to make sure everything is on the table turn 2 you could still drop one interceptor, the hurricane bolters and something lese to buy an Aegis with Comm which I would man with the interceptors. That way you can (if you want) shunt your NDK into the enemies face turn 1 and still profit from the reroll when your Raven needs to come in turn 2. I for one would probably hold them back till you can drop the purifiers, so either turn 2 or 3 and till then use the NDKs to nibble at the enemies flanks. Strongly depends on the enemies army composition of course. The decision if and what you want to deploy on the table instead of reserves I would solely adjust depending on you opponents list. With a little experience most of the time it's relatively easy to determine how to make the best of your flexible deployment options. My rules of thumb is to deploy most of my stuff against assaulty armies and deepstrike nearly everything against shooty armies. It's so blatant that I feel kinda stupid typing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306476-out-of-my-comfort-zone-purifiers-and-stormraven/#findComment-4016287 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
You really need a Comms Array. Firstly so your Terminators show up and draw fire Turn 1, and hopefully kill something as well. Also so your Raven is on Turn 2. If it doesn't come on till Turn 3 or Turn 4, you'll lose. It's too many points off table.
