Nuclear Fridge
I need a little help and advice, so I'm asking all of you hardcore Cadian field commanders out there... I'm building and painting a small Cadian army for my brother. I need to know what I have to make to get it a legal, going force. I don't have a copy of the current Militarum Codex to consult. I'm working off an old IG Codex for now. So far, I have completed: - a stock Chimera (for an Armoured Fist squad); a five-man Kasrkin squad; two Mortar teams; one Heavy Bolter team; three troop sergeants; three flamer troopers. On the go:- three vox-caster troops; a command squad; a pile of standard foot troopers. Right now I'm aiming for an Armoured Fist squad for one Troops choice, and 25 models (a command squad plus 2 squads of 10 troopers) for the second Troops choice. The HQ will be a Command squad. I'll probably split the mortars and heavy bolter off to help make up some dedicated heavy-weapons squads. Frater Cornelius
The new book changed most things for the better, so if you are basing it on the old book, you can always toss in a few improvements later on. Having said that, do not focus too much on it. Better hurry and get the new one :P As for the list, you have a decent start. If I am understanding this correctly, you have 1 Veteran Squad in Chimera, one CCS, PCS and two IS in Chimeras. I prefer my Veterans to go in pairs, but that is personal preference. Tell us more about their specific loadouts. That is what makes the most difference now. WarriorFish
Sounds like you've got a good start - the codex hasn't changed massively so as Immer said looks like you've got the core to a list. The HWTs could be used for HWSs but can also be nice cheap upgrades for squads for example a mortar on a command squad. A good stash of troopers, with vox if you want it is a solid start to any Gaurd army. Flamers are essential weapons too, not to mention effective and cheap! Getting the new codex as said will be a good idea for when you start getting more models together. You'll need to convert 10 of the troopers to Vets for a legal list as it stands, along with something for the HQ. A company command squad is usually best so I'd get some more troopers. If you're willing to invest in the big picture the Cadian Defence Force set would be a great addition and give you all the things you need to see the army strengthened - buy it from an online reseller for even more savings ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306560-bare-bones-cadian-force/#findComment-4018040 Share on other sites
Nuclear Fridge
Basic vanilla infantry to start with - sergeant, vox, flamer in each squad. I can get fancy later on with grenade launchers and (maybe) a heavy weapons team for defensive missions. My brother's looking at a Hellhound (most likely he's going to be fighting Nid swarms). As for the Kasrkin "5 man" squad - that's what I have painted. I have enough unpainted to make a 10-man squad with various special weapons: plasma gun, melta, 2 grenade launchers. These guys are going to be the heavy-duty punch to back up their grunt buddies. I also have 2 metal Cadian snipers and the parts for a third from the company command frame... but they're a long way down on my painting list. I'm still trying to make headway on some Space Wolves. WarriorFish
An Eradicator will also take care of hordes nicely, same with a couple of Wyverns :) What colour scheme are you going for? Nuclear Fridge
An Eradicator will also take care of hordes nicely, same with a couple of Wyverns What colour scheme are you going for? Nothing fancy... a 'retro Cadian' scheme of dark green helmets & armour, over pale tan fatigues, black boots & belts. Basically what they were like when "Codex: Eye of Terror" came out. The tanks are dark green/black mottle with piles of weathering and scuffs. By the way - thanks on the Eradicator & Wyvern advice. A Leman Russ is on the purchases horizon, but the basic battle-cannon armament isn't really suited to tackling Nid swarms...
