Batrep for my tournament last weekend

Hi all,

I took bits of advice on my list from the list forum and I thought I'd let you all know how I did.

This was actually only my second through fourth games of 7th Ed 40k. I had to take a break for a few years for family reasons. But here goes.

My finalized 2496 point list was

SW CotGW Detachment

Harald Deathwolf with 2 Fenrisian Wolves

Three TWC with BP and CCW

TWM IP with BP and 2 Cyberwolves

Relic Sicaran with HB sponsons and Schism of Mars Legacy of Glory

Murderfang in DP with Isstvaan V Dropsite Massacre Legacy of Glory

FW Armoured Battlegroup Detachment

Leman Russ Vanquisher with Artificer Hull and Beasthunter shells

Two Leman Russ Executioners

Two Hydra Flak Cannons (2 squadrons)

Shadowsword with 4 HB sponsons, 2 Lascannon turrets and 2 Targeters

Knight detachment

Knight Errant

The first game was a basic control objective game, but the TO had thrown in a meteor swarm. For every unit not fully in cover, roll a die and add the turn number: on a 6+ it gets hit by a S8 hit. A 1 always misses.  I thought this a bit too much, but it worked wonders on my opponent. He lost several hits to that. Opponent had (I don't remember all the details) a chaos cultist army with a boatload of plague zombies. He had a defiler, two things with auto cannon that looked like a miniature brass scorpion but with cannons for arms - I can't find them on forge world or GW site, two havoc squads an obliterator squad, a 40 or so man squad of cultist marauders(?), a 40 or so squad of plague zombies, three bikes, and some sorcerer dude.  He went first and thanks to my extreme newness to the list, managed to wipe out my Knight on his first turn.  I forgot my shield - ah well. My dice in general were against me, as my vehicles had a hard time landing shots on the defiler and scorpion things (their cannons were vicious!). I ignored the plague zombies as they couldn't hurt my tanks and worked on taking out the havoc squads. Murderfang dropped in behind a havoc squad but his flamer was ineffective.

His next turn the obliterators come on and wipe murderfang (the rule of the day - drop pod assault in my opinion is crippled in the game). We grinded down more shooting and finished after another largely ineffective turn on both sides - that was time for the game. Points were scored by victory points remaining on the field, slay the warlord, line breaker, etc. I ended up losing 11 to 9 (close enough to a draw for me).

Game two was more fun. I played an Eldar list with two Lynx, one with the D weapon, one with the sonic weapon laying down hailstorm templates. He also had a Wraithknight, two fliers, and five wave serpents (three with squads in them). Deployment was on the short board edges out to 18", and there were five objectives down the long axis of the board in the center. They were worth more the further they were from your board edge. I seized the initiative and then one shotted his Wraithknight with the Vanquisher's beast hunter shells. The Sicaran then took out a wave serpent in one round of shooting, wrecking it. The knight rushed forward, hitting the D-weapon Lynx with the thermic cannon. The TWC and Harald moved to assault the other Lynx on the next turn.  His return shooting next round stripped some hull points, killed a TWC and not much else. His dice were acting like mine did first game. The knight took out the D-Lynx in turn three, the Hydras took out the fliers in two turns and also eliminated two wave serpents.  The Sicaran was shredding them and the squads inside. In turn five, the knight took out the sonic Lynx, the explosion of which took out the knight! We each had only one hull point left! Glorious! I ended up tabling him by turn 6.

The third game was karma. Also massively fun, but massively painful. The player had Dark Angels bikes with Cotez and grav centurions. He seized and proceeded to scout move, move, shoot, and then wipe half my army fist turn - the Sicaran, Knight, all the wolves, and got several hull points off the Leman Russes. Murderfang came in and he pity charged me turn two, giving Murderfang the opportunity to get his only kills of the day (two bikes). The Hydras killed some weird skimmer thing the DA have (looks like a flying pipe organ). He took out the rest of the army except the Shadowsword in turn two. The Shadowsword them thunder blitzed the three bike squads in front of him and rolled 6 for two of the squads just removing them. That unfortunately was the best I could do that game.  I was tabled by turn five.

So, all in all, a great time.  I came in sixth overall out of 16. And I won best sportsman.

The DA guy and I will do a rematch game next week I hope where he won't seize and we will see how it goes.

I like the list but will probably make a couple changes. Murderfang is interesting, but I don't know how effective he is as there is only one drop pod coming in. Also, the D weapon rules are just too random.  I'll probably swap the Shadowsword for a regular Baneblade or go for the one with the gun that ignores cover.  I may also switch back from 2 executioners to one and a different Russ.

I've had trouble with dark angels before as well, tl rapid fire anything can force a bunch of save. I also find that the mobility of the bikes can avoid my 2+ and take out some high priced models. Also tough to keep up with in the objectives department
