Are Grey Knights a Space Marine Faction Codex?

Nope.  This is (like the majority of FW Marine releases) not for us.

Also, unlike the quslity rules state, Dark and Blood Angels *are not* of the Space Marine Faction either.

/sigh

Left hand versus Right hand.

Edit: A units Faction is the name of the Codex the unit is purchased from.

Space Wolves are Faction: Space Wolves.

Emailed Forgeworld asking. Also asked about space wolves for clarity.

"Hi

Sorry to trouble you.

I saw todays releases by email and feverishly checked out the Laser Vindicator on your site.

I noticed in the rules it says it can be used by forces from the space marine faction including 'blood angels, dark angels, etc.' - to my knowledge there isn't a group encompassing these codicies apart from the armies if the imperium faction.

The reason I ask is that I would love to add this unit to my Grey Knight and Space Wolf armies but I play in tournaments and need to verify if it is legal incase i'm challenged.

Is there a published list of what codicies are in the 'space marine faction' or could you pleasd clarify them for me?

Thanks for your time"

EDIT: just read it back again and saw the spelling mistakes... nnnnooooooooooo!

Read the playtest rules mate.

FW have offered this to any army from Faction Space Marines, which according to them include Dark Angles, Blood Angles and etc.

RAW, they are utterly wrong.  RAI, who knows who get this. lol.

A Deimos Pattern Vindicator Tank Destroyer may be taken as a Heavy Support choice for any Space Marines Faction Codex (including Dark Angels, Blood Angels, etc,.)

It makes zero sense though, and would break trend even for them. We don't have Vindicators to begin with, why would we magically get access?

It's different with the Xipon, they specifically mention us and all other Marines by name. Sounds like an oversight on their part.

There's a small problem for Armies that don't have Vindicators in thier Codexes though, the unit entry states they can take any upgrade from the Parent Codexes vehicle upgrade lists.

Having a Vindicator entry or not is irrelevant. Have you not got a Vehicle Upgrade list?

Grey Knights are a "Space Marine Faction", as seen from Perfered Enemy (Space Marines) can be used on Grey Knights due to their designation as Space Marines under their army special rules. Not that I would waste a Heavy slot on a non-NDK.

SJ

Actually I thought of this too but didn't say anything, but immediately I thought of the Preferred Enemy space marines umbrella which we are lumped under.

When Forge World adds a new Marine unit to the game, and say it can be used by specific Marine armies, GK need to be mentioned or they cannot use it. However, when FW says the new Unut can be used by any Marine army, GK can use it. Because GK are Marines, but they aren't regular Marines.

It still bothers me that every SM army get's a myriad of FW toys from way back in the Heresy era to play with but GKs get a Thunderhawk and a slightly modified version of a Land Raider (everything else has no functional rules ignoring the ITC dreadnought). I understand that GKs are extremely specialized but wouldn't it make sense to modify some chassis like they did with the Thunderhawk to aid their fight against Chaos and Daemons?

Especially since the Chapter was created during the Heresy and includes a membership, and war host designed around that time frame.

Also didn't Malcador psychically grunt and push a forgeworld moon all the way from Mars to Titan during this time frame? Would there not be STC's on such a planet?

The numbers may be limited, but aside from 'rarity' which is already established with Relic rules, I don't think it should be off limits to any loyal Astartes!!!

Codex: Legion of the Damned is a Space Marine army as well.

Yet it cannot legally use this Vindicator in a Battle-forged list.

Being effected by PE: Space Marines is different from being part of Faction: Space Marines, which specifically applies to a single Codex.

Perhaps it's time for GW to actually have an accurate Glossary, and for both GW and FW to stick to specific terms. ;)
