Question Regarding Painting Death Company

I'm not much of a painter and just got into the hobby a few months ago, but I'm trying to paint my Death Company up. I've base coated them with Army Painters matt black spray, and then painted on details with Mephiston Red, White Scar, and Leadbelcher.  I've browsed this forum a lot and absolutely love the different models and how they've been painted and was wondering what do you guys suggest to use for washing and dry brushing the Death Company?

Maybe dont dry brush if you have already painted the details!

Edge highlight with codex grey, then extreme edge highlight with fortress grey, if you want a simple, cold scheme.

Wash wise, I'd consider painting err, the blue or green wash or nuln oil into the recesses of the armour, to add a bit of depth. Don't actually slather it all over the model!

Yep, nowt wrong with largely black models on a grey base, whether they be Death Company

or regular marines (well, a Vanguard Veteran in this case).

The only problem is if your grey is super dark, but even then the black ought to stand out.

More on topic:  if you've done the details in one colour only the first thing you're going to want to do is give them a wash and/or some highlights.

Edge highlighting works a lot better on marines than dry brushing in my experience and it's a useful skill to have so you might as well get started on it now. I suspect very few of the Death Company examples you've admired on here will have had dry brushed highlights. If you're not confident in your ability initially, practice the technique on a piece of sprue.

I do my DC with black primer, then a black basecoat (I love redundancy!), then do zenithal highlights with Vallejo Model Air German Grey.  I've drybrushed the black parts of these guys with Boltgun Metal.

I also concur that they may get a little lost on a gray base like urban rubble.  I've done my DC (but not the  rest of my army) on these high desert type bases.

Awesome thank you all for the wonderful input. I'll for sure look up some tutorials on how to do edge highlighting and get to work on that I guess. Also, time to pick up some Nuln Oil!

EDIT: Also I've been using Agrax Earthshade to wash my non-DC marines thanks to reading about how well it looked on here. I can't remember who exactly had said to do it, but thanks again!

If you want something a little different to the standard grey highlights, I can recommend Dark Reaper followed by Thunderhawk Blue. This will give you an interesting blueish-grey, and is a little less stark to my eyes than a straight grey highlight. If you flick through my blog/thread I did a Deathwatch marine using this method.
