bsucbe
Well I have always had my eye on this game system and now I'm employed and clawing my way out of student debt (slowly) I am thinking about starting an imperial fleet and was wondering 1) what people would suggest as a small starter fleet. 2) which proxies people would suggest to represent each ship class. Dono1979
What faction do you want to play? Xenos are hit and miss with the affordability of fleets and various scratch builds, for example Nids are EASY to build scratch built ships as are Orks and Dark Eldar. Tau not so much and their ships are pretty expensive to buy plus have a reasonably unique aesthetic to them, in the same way Eldar do, so are hard to find alternatives. Imperial Navy has the most alternative designs out there, but honestly the two best that I have seen which work with the general feel of the game are Zeus Shipyards and Battlegroup Helios (new company just google them). Plus the original ships are pretty great. Space Marines are a little harder to get alternatives for because again they have a very specific aesthetic but I have seen a few done nicely. I have a small stockpile of most Imperial ships, I'll flick you a PM and let you know what I have got available. bsucbe
Imperial navy, have always backed the imperium in the 40k world, chaos might be fun but trying to stop a demon with a supercharged waterpistol shows real character. Rune Priest Ridcully
Imperial navy ships tend to be quite common on ebay, thus good deals can be had and most don't go for silly prices.I'd suggest getting Dictators and gothics if you could, try and get some excorts if you can, most people would be happy to let you use any of the battlsheip hulls as any of them as long as you had the right weapons batteries in it. bsucbe
Well I have a pair of unassembled cruisers inbound so what would you suggest as a starting pair? xera32
You wouldn't go wrong with a gothic and a dictator. Gothics are great at killing heavily armoured ships, and the dictator can protect your fleet from enemy ordnance or destroy ships with low turret count (especially the eldar fleets). To expand from those 2 cruisers you should get a squadron of cobras and a squadron of swords/firestorms. Escorts provide very efficient and maneuverable firepower to most fleets. spu00sed
I prefer the lunar as a main cruiser. Good selection of weapon types. The gothic is hamstrung if you come up against eldar. And the Armageddon as a battle cruiser. Though the dictator is good as a fleet carrier. bsucbe
I think I'm aiming for a lunar and a dictator to start with, next step after that probably being a mars for a flagship and maybe another lunar. Escorts are a maybe, as I can get a set of cobras. Why is there never enough money to supply our modelling needs?
