Did anyone prefer the older Skitarii, such as in Titanicus?

I feel like the intense variety of Skitarii in the background leaves a lot of room for the counts-as forces we've seen used as Mechanicum in the past. Genebulked/regimented = Space Marines, genebulked/savage = Wolves and/or Orks etc. I still have fantasies of collecting a giant Mechanicus army that spans 40k and Forgeworld Mechanicus alongside a mix of counts-as Space Marines, Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Tau, Eldar and Orks.

Someone remind me, what were the 'old' Skitarii armed with? Las weapons primarily?

Las weapons were most common.  The 'old' Skitarii appeared a very long time ago, so there wasn't as wide a range in weaponry as there is now.  You pretty much had your choice of the original Imperial inventory - auto, las, bolt, plasma, melta, flamer.  Since then the different types of weapons available to Imperial forces have increased dramatically.
