ShinyRhino
As it says in the title, I'm looking for a skull. A very particular skull. I'm trying to replicate the staff used by the Librarian in the picture below: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z43/goalie20/rglib_zps729222c9.jpg In fact, I'm trying to build the whole model of him, but the staff is a good start. The problem I'm having is that most of the skulls I have right now are too large. I have a bunch from Tomb Kings kits that are just a tad too large and make the staff look like it's got a scary beach ball on top. I've looked at Bitzbox for any other skull, but the problem there is size references. I have no clue how big the various bitz are. So, does anyone know of a skull in any GW kit that matches the approximate size of an unhelmeted Marine head that wouldn't require too much carving and cutting to get to bare cranium in order to mount on a staff and then add sculpted horns to? I know the older Librarian models had skulls similar to the above art, but the detail in those older generation models is a little too cartoony to fit with the current parts I'm using. Grotsmasha
What you need is THIS 2nd Ed. Librarian. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306843-looking-for-a-skull/#findComment-4024138 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
What you need is THIS 2nd Ed. Librarian. Cheers, Jono Thanks. I've seen him a bunch of times and thought about using that top, but in your opinion, would that older detail style clash if added to the top of say, a modern Grey Knights warding staff? I don't think it would clash. Have you considered clipping the Halo off of the Warding Staff and sculpting the horns onto it? I'd considered it, but the skull inside the halo is miniscule without the rings. Something about GW skulls, always too big or too small. Ovidius Incertus
What about the skull bits that come in various Dark Eldar kits, esp. the Raider? I've found they're suitably sized to adorn a SM power pack or belt. I'd have to wait til I get home, but I'd say they're slightly larger than the skull on a GK force staff. Alternately, what about the skulls in a Vamp Counts Skeletons box? The old one, since I think they changed recently. The old VC heads from before they switched to newer sprues are similar to the TK skulls I have. I think they actually used the same sprues on some of the skeletons, since they were one faction at one time, yes? jokaero weaponsmith
I think maybe the grey Knights terminator skull from bitz box would be your best option. infyrana
There is also the older metal librarian's banner pole as seen in the 1997 catalog (thank you to the host of this website, please remove it if it breaks T&C's): http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/1997p052-02.htm I thought there was another banner pole similar, but it could just be this one kicking around I remember seeing a lot of. *edit, will send a pm of some better pics* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/306843-looking-for-a-skull/#findComment-4024343 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
Thanks guys. The old banner pole is a possibility, as is the GK TDA skull (though I'd nip the horns off and resculpt curved ones). Funnily enough, I used the middle of that old Calgar banner pole as the staff topper for my old Ultramarine jump pack Librarian. You know, in looking at the part again, it probably wouldn't be to small once the horns are sculpted on. I'll have to give it a go, and if I fail miserably in sculpting the horns, no loss as I can just snip the skull off anyways.
