Samus is here

I just want to clarify that it's a massive assumption on my part that Samus was sculpted by Trish Carden - and either way, models like the Carmine Dragon show she is very talented, it's just that the aesthetic of 40k & 30k doesn't tend to provide that many opportunities for her particular abilities to shine

I don't think a paintjob is gonna save this one.

I'll buy him and try a paint job and see if it's any better for you

I think black skin with almost volcanic eyes would be better

Perfect, because then you could make him a counts-as Daemon Prince Vulkan from an alternate heresy. ;p

Well now I have to get him when I visit the UK in august

My biggest issue is the funky pose. I think the rest of him looks fine and agree that a different paint job would really make it shine. Plenty of times, we've seen FW releases that appeared lackluster in the website photos and then when players got hold of them and started posting pics of them painted, it was a whole different story.

Samus is a interesting unit with a... problematic model. I want to like it, but it's just a little awkward. I wonder if maybe changing the sword to a normal grip rather than reverse might help? I want to like it, though since I'm not much for the Daemon range in the first place I'm likely the wrong audience.

The Solar Auxilia command, though, I love. They are amazing, and I'd live to get them if I were going to build a Solar Auxilia army.

Yeah, it says in the description if the model that you can choose between an open hand and a mangled Astartes corpse.

Has anyone noticed that models holding their swords out like the SA commander (like the IF commander released recently) seem to have a rather limp-wristed grip on their blades?

Edit: typo

Apparently, they're kinda legit based off of Fencing Poses. There was a small discussion on the subject a while back, iirc.

Maybe that's what they went for, but I have held that IF command model in my hands and he really does look like he's distastefully pinching his sword and is about to drop it. The thumb in particular isn't wrapped firmly around the grip at all and it looks very off. I guess he's not too worried about dropping it because it's chained to his wrist, happens all the time right?

...that being said, it's probably the only flaw in the Imperial Fists line of otherwise incredibly nice models.

In comparison the SA Marshal looks like he has a firm grip on his sword. And oh man his cape... I doubt it is, but if it was a separate piece the lion heads would make for cool Astral Claws character conversion material.

Legit in fencing maybe, but I don't imagine the "just the tip" method translates well into a broadsword-esque power sword, and definitely not with the thumb and forefinger grip the IF commander has.

From the images, it really looks like he has a break in his wrist. I imagine an officious, pinch-faced aristocrat dandy pointing something out to his valet.

"Look there, Winston, those ruffians dressed all in green seem to be engaged in some flim flammery!"

You say "officious, pinch-faced aristocrat dandy"

I hear "Emperor's Children officer"

i love Samus, and tbh, the paint-job isn't that bad either.

also, from where does this "Trish bashing" come from? honestly, i haven't seen a "bad" model from her yet tongue.png

(and btw, as far as i know, she works on a big nurgle thing atm)

Well for me the first thing is the RG contemptor, the thing is so uninspired in so many different ways. Giant Bird skull in place of aquila? Check. Bird trophies/ dangly bits because the word 'raven' has to be milked? Check. The only "inspired" part is ironically the worst; the Polynesian swirly bits that aren't seen on any other RG model.

I know a lot of people dislike the tyranid one for looking too top heavy and having "platform shoes".

I'm also personally not a fan of the carmine dragon's pose

All subjective of course

And that's what it comes down to, personal taste. I think the model could be stunning with just a slight alteration of pose (again, hairdryer), and painted in a luminescent blue-grey, like an internal glow in the muscles of his skin showing through. I'd also take the risk, and give his flesh a coat of Wet Effects at the end, to make him look oddly slimy, and disgusting. The remnants of his warp-birth, perhaps.

Don't only look to the models' inadequacy, when it's salvation requires such minimal effort to correct.

Admit it. Some of y'all who dislike this model, are also staring at it, thinking on how to make it better. Some of you will even follow through, I bet.

Give it a chance, is all I'm saying. Let's see what happens when someone on the board here picks one up and gets inspired, and blows all of our minds. If even those abominable 40k Cen.... cen.... *coughs up blood*.... Centurions... can be made salvageable in the hands of a creative modeler, then I think this sucker has potential as well.

I can't wait to see him!

I agree with Hynedia on this one I think that with some conversion work this guy can look awesome.

Also did anyone else notice that his rules reference daemons in age of darkness???? His rules are interesting.
