Modeller's pride - what have you made recently?

Honestly, my own favorite mini, one I display proudly in my display case and that I pick up nearly everytime Im painting or assembling simply to inspire myself is the Alpha legionare I made for the March of Legions:

(Picture is not brilliant, but I didnt have time to take any). This mini makes me want to make an alpha legion (or maybe another legion, but same theme) kill team, something small and fluffy based around this guy. I will have to do it someday. What I love most about his pose is how relaxed and natural it ended up looking, as if hes scouting from a ruined building, looking over the battlefield searching for his target.

you know, it never ceases to amaze me how a simple, understated model job can just make an epic figure.

my favorite kitbash.......ever.

Why thank you brother! Now stooop you are gonna make me blush blush.png :P

Two custom characters I've made recently have been really fun to make and I can't stop oodling them!

First is very recent! (You can see a WiP in the Blood Angels section...) - Nassir Amit, The Flesh Tearer:

I have a few I'm proud of.

Annabelle Chrysanthemum (Saint Celestine) of the Order of the Dauntless Spirit

Since this picture was taken, I ruined the model by drybrushing the cherubs too heavily with silver sad.png I'm going to get around to painting that model again by buying a new one and using this one as an objective marker.

Brother Captain Varagol

The models so far are great. Really nice to see lots of peoples take on characters and subtle conversions.

Here's my guy which is the most recent model I've made that has kept me picking him up.

This is an excellent idea for a topic, and I think we all know this feeling when something just clicks: It's more than the pride of having finished a model, it's the feeling of having gotten a particular pose or kitbash or painting effect just so, right?

Without wanting to sound too full of myself, that's what I am trying to achieve with every single model I build and paint these days. By no means do I want to imply that I produce nothing but stellar work -- far from it. But for me, the feeling that I keep picking up a model to marvel at a certain detail and feel pleased with myself has become the most important indicator that a piece is actually done (or at least getting there).

In the past, I have ended up more than once with models that seemed like a cop out. Like, I would lavish lots of detail on the squad leader and the icon bearer, and then maybe have some pretty cool ideas for one or two of the squad members. Yet in the end, there would always be that one guy where it just seemed like I had lost interest. But our hobby is too expensive and also too much work to phone it in like that, so I try to avoid this as much as possible these days (even going so far as going through my collection and disassembling the models I am unhappy with, in order to remake them and get it right the second time around). Does this produce armies at a very quick rate? No, quite the opposite, but it means I am happier with every model I manage to finish -- and it also seems like I am getting more bang for my buck that way.

Huh, sorry for the wall of text :) As for actual models, the latest example of my being perfectly happy with a model is this (still PIP) iron Warriors champion:

I have a couple. This one is still a WIP, but it's getting very close and I'm itching to share. She's a Canoness special character for an FLGS campaign that starts tonight.

This one is a few years old and a little fiddly but I'm still a big fan.

I always spend a long amount of time thinking about how to convert my models. I'm rarely satisfied with my finished product, and almost always spend hours agonising and over analysing how to make them 'better'. In terms of finished models, I'd have to say that over my decade and a bit of modelling, this is my favourite.

Created for a Deathwatch-Dark Heresy campaign cross over, and for potential use in Inq28, this is my true-scale Iron Father. A simple hack-n-slash kitbash of the FW Iron Father model. The choice in head/hair is a bit of a joke with my gaming buddies - we role play our characters as ourselves, so this is actually meant to be me.

It might not be as finely polished as other models, but to me, this one is special.

This is one of my favourites. I'd been plugging away at the build for months, and finally finished and painted it for a contest in the Fists forum. He's a fairly basic conversion of one of the masters of the chapter models, with a custom built hammer and parts from various kits. COuld be a bit more polished, and needs a nice base, but overall I'm happy with him.

First Commander Harpus Goethe of the Gatekeepers.

I just finished this guy, a Master of Signals for my Salamanders and he´s definitely one of my favorite models just because of the simplicity of it all. Just a nice, clean kitbash. happy.png

This guy definitely falls into the "It just clicked" category for me. I knew I wanted the sword arm and the MKV Helmet for sure when I set out, actually bought a new SG box just for the arm. He's far and away the favorite of my Fallen that I've done recently.

Firstly its great to see everybody's unique models here...so many great ideas from simple but clever kit bashes to full on green-fu work

I have 2 models that have a special place.

The 1st is my world eaters captain..with thanks to a few B&C members who helped with the input for the build....and i put this off for ages as i was scared of painting it lol...yet turned out to be my best paint job ever..

The 2nd is a model from about 10-12 years ago and was one of my first hq conversions for that army...was meant as a mini chaplain mortis.

Do plans count?

Go for it. What's on the table?

Far too much to list in one response.

But Im currently brewing plans involving an IG tank conversion using the movie Fury as inspiration.

Hmmm this happens to me a lot, but especially with my Mechanicum armies.

The ones that have been doing this the most to me? I'll cut it down to 3.
