Knight Errant.

please, help me to decide.

Here's me playing devil's advocate to Jeffersonian's post....

*IF* the tournament is using modified Maelstrom, I would seriously consider list 1.

I say this because 4 Teleporting NDK's are no joke. You will have 2 more Libbies with Gate potential.  No section of the board will be out of reach, and every where is reinforce-able in a jump, shunt or gate.

I have played against, and been in massive Apoc games using Knights, but I have never used one myself, so I cannot give you an honest appraisal of List 2 without just theorizing, so I'd rather not mislead you.

My gut says list 1 has the most tactical flexibility, but list 2 seems.... what's the word? 'Bluntly' more destructive.

Ask yourself this:

- Are you going to win? Or have fun? Or a bit of both?

- Which of the two lists do you think suits your meta better?

- Which list would you say you have the most experience with? **

** I think experience with a list is severely underrated in most of these conversations. I've seen very 'mediocre' stuff do quite well (better than it should) in the hands of someone with a very high experience level. Conversely, I know of a few people personally that have 'netlisted' a tournament army, and not truly understood it against all-comers and they get waxed and don't understand how it could happen when they were using 'This AMAZING list that finished top 5 at LVO (or something similar)"

Just my two Falchions worth of tournament advice. :)

I like list no.1. DK's are about the same lethality in combat as a single Errant, and their firepower is great against infantry of all kinds. They're also a lot more mobile. I just fear a single Errant is going to eat all the anti-tank firepower.

I voted for Alt2 because it's so close to what I play at 1850. Personally, I'd drop 5 GKT for 10 Interceptors.

You know everytime I try to drop Termies for more (fill in the blank) because I need more bodies, it reminds me how overpriced so many units feel. I mean what is the math for replacing 5 Termies with 10 interceptors???

I think one of the real shortcomings of the codex is it really pushes you hard into Termies, and deviating from that is really difficult. The only mild temptation is Interceptors simply because you're not stuck out in the open for half a game.... but even then I think they're still too pricey.

So much AP3 hate in the game today. I know there's a lot of AP2 weaponry now as well, but I have found it exceedingly difficult to include any PA in my lists at all... and that really sucks to be quite honest.

Thx for the replies, ... this is so useful.

I think i will choose Alternative 1.

I played against nids last day... and was very good, despite of most players said to me, that the knight would get traped, but Stomp did all the job...

Yeah it is really frustrating, because if this wasn't Marine Haterade Edition: The Movie: The Animated Series: The Trading Card Game, Interceptors and Purifiers would be considered borderline broken. As is, they shine for about 1-2 turns, then melt to enemy firepower. :( Sternguard are in the same boat too, I haven't seen them in competitive Marine lists except as combi-melta MSU, which is really sad. I remember the days when Sternguard were feared and considered a viable replacement for Tactical Terminators.

Everytime I write lists, I find Terminators just fit better to whatever I'm trying to do. They get in the enemy's face Turn 1, they demand AP2 to be dealt with, and they don't need any help crushing other things in melee, plus they bring decent firepower for their cost (a Relentless psycannon in every squad is a big deal). They're just very efficient, and the 5+ invul does somewhat slow down enemy AP2 (you still die a lot but less than PA would).

Hard to really say without knowing what the scenarios are and how the tournament is handling Lords of War.

If you get stuck with the Escalation rules and a really low scoring draw-ish scenario like Emperor's Will then the Knight could be a real liability giving away free VP.

Basically it's between 4 dreadknights, or 2 dreads and a Knight... I'd go with the knight and 2 dreadknights. Yeah you lose a MC, but you gain better ranged guns and arguably better combat with stomps and D.

So yes.... List number 2!
