Death Guard 30k organisation question

Recommended Posts

Get yourself reading the wiki's if you can.  But the best source is the Betrayal book from FW (pages 128,129).  Mortarion had a vision that was different to the original basic setup of the legions, organising the Death Guard into seven "Great Companies" of a considerably larger size than standard legion organisation.  The idea being that each company would hold 70,000 legion astartes for a total of 490,000 space marines - but these figures were never met.

Chapters?  Isn't that a 40k thing?  This is 30k, this world is about legions containing companies, battalions, detachments,  etc etc :)

And Chapters.

Chapters are one of the terms used for legion organisation. Also remember what the Death Guard call Great Companies, another Legion may call Chapter, or Grand Company, or Harrow, etc.

The Death Guard may call a certain grouping of companies a Chapter.

The Death Guard "Great Company" is a Death Guard specific organization, not to be confused with the usage of that term among other legions, and effectively divides the Legion into seven parts.

While not much more is given in detail, images of Death Guard legionaries are noted as belonging to Companies and Chapters.

Again, while no specifics seem to be given, it seems that the Death Guard Legion had Chapters composed of Companies and possibly Battalions, and the Chapters were divided among the seven Great Companies.

As a reference for the existence of Chapters, page 134 of Betrayal speaks of a native Barbarusan, that had arisen to become a standard bearer within the 19th Chapter of the 1st Great Company.
