marshall Egregorius
Gentlemen and Magi, With the advent of the new mechanicus codex's, we have rules for skitarii, the techguard of the mechanicus. However, in canon lore there have been skitarii with las-guns called Hypaspists. It seems to me that the new skitarii are specialist units, however the Hypaspists have not been mentioned anywhere in the book, including the organizational chart for the legiones skitarii. As such, I pose two questions: 1. Are Hypaspists still canon or have they gone the way of the squats? 2. If canon, how to represent them? Imperial guard? What type of conversions to do so? In search of holy Data, Egregorius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307314-hypaspists/ Share on other sites
nziv
Not sure about cannon, but are they equivalent of 30k Tech-thralls maybe? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307314-hypaspists/#findComment-4035166 Share on other sites
Ordo Machinum
SELECTED: DENTRICA I OF I ENGAGE NEURAL CONGRESS – WIRELESS AUTOSHUNT ACQUIRED UPLOADING… + HYPASPISTS + Hypaspists were briefly mentioned in the recent novel Skitarius. Sadly no real details were given as to appearance, weaponry, etc. 40K Wiki: Hypaspists - Hypaspist Skitarii were the most basic augmented infantrymen of the Tech-Guard and were armed with cybernetically hard-linked Lasguns similar to those used by the soldiers of the Imperial Guard. Hypaspists were generally more powerful and skilled soldiers than standard Guardsmen as a result of the cybernetic enhancements that made them stronger and more accurate than normal humans and the psychosurgery they had undergone to suppress their emotional reactions and make them immune to panic or fear. However, this enhancement also made Hypaspists less independent and able to think for themselves in combat. I would say a cross of Imperial Guard and Skitarii would be in order. CommodusXIII
In Skitarius, the term hypapist is used as an off-hand reference to the regular Skitarii soldiers. I would say that they've been retconned into a general term for Rangers/Vanguard, perhaps as a Mechanicus blanket term for "infantry". CommodusXIII
Yeah, because they haven't had a true army list since 2nd Edition the structure and hierarchy of the AdMech military has been a complete mess. Every author has a different take on it - from Soul Drinker to Titanicus to the ...Of Mars and Ciaphas Cain series. Any organized approach would necessarily result in a lot of retconning just to bring everything into alignment. Vel'Cona
I like the idea of Tech-Guard allied to the Adeptus Mechanicus armies; perhaps using IG Veterans to represent them, with Grenadier upgrades to show the upgraded warplate. You could even throw an Enginseer or converted Ministorum Priest (to represent some sort of Cult of the Omnissiah Techpriest, perhaps?)! Since Company HQ can take Carapace Armor, they'd work as your HQ choice to represent Hypaspist Command Maniples. Hmm, now I'm picturing Cadians with Skitarii Vanguard heads and a specially converted Chimera . . . Yodhrin
Tech Guard are the Skitarii, that's just "unofficial" name a lot of Imperials use for them. It's like Space Marines vs Adeptus Astartes. And to my recollection Hyspasist has been the generic term for Skitarii line infantry for a while now, I think this idea that they're a specific type of Lasgun-armed infantry is a misunderstanding created by the new Codex; someone assumed that since Hyspasists were previously often depicted as being armed with Lasweapons, they must be distinct from Vanguard and Rangers, when really Vanguard and Rangers are designations for specific types of Hyspasists. In the past Hyspasists have been depicted as armed with Lasweapons(most commonly), Bolters, even Pikes.
