Inquisitor Valeria Mane Retenio

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am working on a new inquisitor based on the old man Karamazov model and his awesome throne of orbital bombardment.  However, I always have held a thing for the sisters of battle and thus am taking my Inquisitor into that direction.

The good Inquisitor Valeria Mane had always been a  determined girl with a desire to help others deal with their own guilt and shame.  To this end, she found the ordo hereticus to compliment her own passions.  Searching out those who error and allowing them the chance to repent for their sins.  Truly, there is no greater sacrifice than to devote yourself so fully to others.

Valeria Mane has taken the title Retenio as a suffix to her name as she travels the galaxy.  She has a dedicated group of Sisters Repentia shackled and nameless in their devotion to seek forgiveness for their sins.  Wielding huge double handed chainswords, these once proud sisters have a personal burden known only to their Retenio.  Only her words can guide these women back to the goodness they forsook.  These fearless warriors gathered from years of service are singular in carrying out the will of their Retento.  Such is the way to their salvation.

Lastly, the good Inquisitor Mane has also made request of Imperial forces often during her years.  A small team of Bullgryn warriors were left in her care once and she has taken to their childlike brilliance with a mothers determination.  Each Giant brute is tended as if he were one of her own children.  Gathering between battles to listen to stories of the Emperor, or to recite catechisms between the endless lessons they endure.  In return these Abhumans have bonded to the Inquisitor in a most fearful way.  Using themselves and their huge slabshields, they act as a living wall to protect their "mother" in battle.

Inquisitor Mane has a modified type IV dreadnought system with several unique design features that allow her to bring its full power to bear without the need to inter her forever into its cold metal womb.  Alongside her, the list of errors is read on a perpetual scoll as her dearest mentor Dr. Albious Brighton (who originally wielded this amazing beast).  The good doctor had chosen to permanently affix himself when a Tyranid invasion took his legs and lower body centuries ago.  Inquisitor Mane was responsible for bringing his body safely to Imperial space after that dreadful incident.  Last, is the poor Mr Bob.  Servitor lobotomized and permanently wired into the weapon systems of the dreadnought.  Mr. Bob is always chosen from a very special type of heretic.  And is considered to be the purest form of service and repentance.  Mr. Bob is truly blessed and should be seen as such despite what he might have been earlier in life.

Heavy multimelta, power claws, chainsword claw hand, heavy flamers in each arm.   The Throne of the Repentia is a mighty weapon.  Its ancient shields mimic the type used by the loathsome eldar and its stream of information allows to see enemy that would be invisible, hiding or otherwise obscured.  The stream of data knows all your sins.

Shes making a list and checking it twice, gonna find out who is naughty or nice....

I really like the thought and effort you've put into the backstory for this inquisitor. A unique and fluffy take and I think it really works for using Karamazov's rules. I'd love to see this painted ... Any chance you might vow this for ETL?

Actually, that sounds pretty good.

Pledge made in the ETL thread.

Maybe I can work on her warband as the parts arrive for the bullgryns.

The only part that was not from the original Karazamov model is the two forgeworld  dreadfire arms, the chaos chainswords and the (Reaper minis?) female model.

Here is a pic of the Female figure when I got her.

The good Inquisitor Mane steps forward.

Now to look after her Retentia court.  Hopefully the Bullgryn parts arrive soon.

WOW!  Dettol works amazing!  Not often I get nine women to strip for me, but a little Dettol and it was easy!  I bought a crew of Repentias on Ebay  and with a quick soak I had nine ready models.  I decided to add some flair with a few greenstuff hoods.  A bit of chain to tie the hoods shut and hopefully they end up with a more secretive air than the original models.  I will try to paint the hooded minis first to see if I should convert the heads on all the Repentias.

Now if only my efforts to make a brute squad of Bullgryns meets with such success!

Here are the hooded sisters

Cool stuff. The hoods look good.

For ETL you could post them as 9 muinistorum priests with eviscerators for 495 points (unfortunately you can't vow them as actual repentia since we can't change codices but this counts-as vow is bigger anyway).

I decided I needed to grimdark the ladies up some if they were going to be ministorium priests.  So I added some leftover books and a boat load of purity seals/ scrolls.  What I did not account for was the flat appearance of the purity seals and scrolls.  I am considering using crazy glue to sculpt the banners one at a time, but maybe heat or some other method could also work and keep my fingertips from being coated in crusty white glue.

I could use any advice or tips that might make this batch of models work better.

and of course a pic of the newly outfitted ladies.

I ended up going with the thin coat of crazy glue on the scrolls.  Got it all over my fingers, but the end result is pretty decent.  I even found some thin jewelry chain to add.  Mixed up some light flesh color primer coat and should start painting properly tomorrow.

I kept the energy going to finish these priestesses and I made some great progress.   I ended up shading the heck out of  them with a set of inks I found at a shop on island.  Waiting for them to dry and then I can pick out details over the next couple of days.

Awesome conversion work on the Inquisitor! Love the lore behind her too, especially with the Sisters tie in.

But those Repentia conversions kinda...bother me. Mostly because of the HUGE purity seals/scrolls. You kept the wax sealing to the purity seal, but at that size it looks more like a pillow attached to their weapons and body. The wax seal also doesn't cover flatly to all the surfaces, especially on the one on the far left that has them on her shoulders, which makes me question how they even made these. Most purity seals are small and fit onto a flat surface, the wax seal used to basically glue them in place, but with them floating off like shoulder pads it seems awkward. In addition, the scrolls themselves also look VERY impractical with their berserker pose, though impractical is hardly new in the 40k universe.

Perhaps instead of wax seals, they can be sewn into the skin? Or perhaps just shrink them down? But to each their own, they are nicely painted and I am interested to see where you go with this either way! Keep up the good work.

Greetings!  and the Repentia Priestesses step forward!

The general idea was to create a visually appealing spectacle.  Giant chainswords, pale skin untouched by sunlight, the dark green leathery garments and the bright red purity seals.

Each of the over sized Purity seals is a direct prayer or catechism that glorifies the Empire and the Purity of humanity.  They are meant to be used as single use recitals to bring fortune or strength to the wielder.  Similar to how scrolls were used in the old D&D games.  Burned directly into the skin or onto their gear, the giant rubbery red blobs would affix the paper scripture to skin, steel and leather.  A short period of redness and pain was a small sacrifice to make to be sure their prayers would be worthy of being heard.

Hmmmmm.... now what to add?  I have two chimera variants I can redo.  orrr two of the old school Land raiders that I was going to make part of my RTB01 beaky marine army.  The land raiders are already stripped and and awaiting a primer coat....

I used to love that movie.  And yeah they are just the right shade and roundness.  I will take it as a compliment, and a as a bit of fun.  I am also starting to primer my old school Land raiders.  I ordered them off E-bay last Christmas and had to completely reassemble one of them.  The shocking amount of glue used to hold one together was truly an achievement of epic proportions.  I am  also trying to press mold new las-cannons for one.  Go-go-greenstuff molds.  here are a few works in progress before I open up my third vow.  I also am working on some Inquisition logos for the land raiders.

Time to add some heavy armor to the Inquisitorial Warband.  The Priestesses need a safe ride around the field to enter into combat.  So they have two specially modified Land Raider MK 1 relics.
