DrMoreau
Dig the ruststalkers and infiltrators, rangers and vanguards not so much and I think mainly its the cloaks. Do you think it would be possibel to remove the cloaks without TO much work? Would it look stupid? I realise the arms would still be clothed, and I guess that would be difficult to fix without some serious converting and armswapping? Would probably go with bare heads and possibly some helmets. The Alpha would get to keep his cloak and hood. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307371-removing-the-cloaks-from-the-skitarii/ Share on other sites
Charlo
An alternative would be imperial guard cadian bodies or whatever storm troopers are called now. No mechanicus symbol but would work in a pinch? CommodusXIII
Yeah, coverting Cadian torsos with the tiny Opus Mechanicus icons from the new Knight sprue will be much easier than cutting and GSing the stock Skitarii torsos. Vel'Cona
It'll be a bit of a struggle to remove the cloaks, IMO. They're highly integral to the model and intertwined with a lot of the detail. You'll definitely need to do some serious green stuff/putty work to make it look decent. DrMoreau
Yeah I guess using guardsmen torsos instead would be easier. Or could you possibly just make the coats shorter, more like a tabard or tunic? Or maybe that would look silly.. Gues I need to go and buy the box to see the models for real, have only seen pictures. But what do you guys think about the idea in general? I just think cloaks are more of a commander/tech-priest attribute and I would like to have the basic troopers look a bit more brutal, maybe add some armour plates or something as well. Yodhrin
Bear in mind; the legs are moulded to fit the cloaks, meaning the thighs have large flat areas with no detail and a chunk of the leg's mass missing, so even if you use alternate torsos you're still going to have to do a partial resculpt on the legs. Vash
Dont do it... to much of a hassel. Better look for alternative models if you don't like the coats. SW1
Would something like the old van Saar models work? Not sure how easy they would be to come by or convert but they have that sealed enviro suit look to them. Cactus
The Van Saar models are all bare headed, so you'd need to replace those to make them convincingly sealed. It might be difficult to get the variety of weapons you need for counts-as purposes. At the prices I see being asked for Necromunda models on eBay I don't think it would be worth the money or the effort, especially if you buy skitarii as well for conversion bits. DrMoreau
Ok sounds like a bad idea then, even if I maneged to cut the cloaks I dont think I could pull of a leg resculp. Will probably by a box and maybe assemble them as Rangers for which I think cloaks would be alright. Still, I like converting models a bit even if Im not very good. Have you seen any nice Skitarii conversions based on the new models? CommodusXIII
It might be a bit pricey, but you could graft the leftover Vanguard heads, arms and weapons onto Scion legs and torsos. The Scions already have cameras/antennae, and their armor design has the same visual cues as the Imperial Knights. I have a unit like this sitting on my WIP shelf. EDIT: Here's someone else's take on the same kitbash - on the left. It's very similar to mine, though I removed the bed rolls from the backpacks to make them a bit more techy. The meltagun makes it difficult to see, but you might get the general idea. Vel'Cona
Hmm. I wonder how Scion goggle-helmets would look on Skitarii bodies? Anyone got pics of that? Yeah, this reason has me thinking it would be very difficult to do. It might be worth using/converting other bodies instead of the rangers/vanguard. CommodusXIII
The goggle helmets appear to be a little bit chunkier than the Vanguard/Ranger heads, so it might be a little odd. Haven't tried it that way around yet, though - this is based on having Vanguard heads and Scion heads side-by-side on Scion bodies.
