Lord Asvaldir
About to start working on some tanks for my renegades&heretics force, going for a more worn out, poorly maintained equipment look. Any suggestions on what colors to use to get a rusted/worn effect? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307377-painting-rust/ Share on other sites
Ovidius Incertus
Vallejo Model Air Rust, Hull Red, Mahogany all give nice rust effects of various tones, but "older" rust. (Doombull Brown could be subbed for the Hull Red, probably.) An orange like Jokaero will give a "new" rust effect. Vallejo Model Color Camo Black Brown gives an interesting corrosion/dark rust color. Apply via sponge or you can use hairspray technique (here you'd want to use multiple rust colors and lay them on in patches and in varying thicknesses to get a varied effect). You can use streaking effects after if you want to go really far. Bung
I would recommend the rust effects from Model Mates, its pretty good and as it dries it gives alot of different shades. http://www.modelmates.co.uk/product-category/pots-rust-effects/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307377-painting-rust/#findComment-4036785 Share on other sites
Gurth
Take a few shades of brown, red, and/or orange — exact colours are completely unimportant. For large rusted areas, paint on one colour as a base. If you then apply a wash of another of these colours, you can enhance the rust effect dramatically by dabbing any of the other colours into the still-wet wash with a fine brush, aiming for random shapes. Rust streaks are easy to do by thinning some rust-coloured paint so it flows well, and then swiping downward with a fine brush from where the actual rust is supposed to be on the model. Larkyn
You know, for what is is, GW's Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust aren't terrible. I have a couple of Killa Kans from the Stormclaw box that I used them on, and they didn't come out that bad, I think. Quick and easy for sure. Lucio
I've tended to use Ryza Rust, washed with Sepia, with Typhus Corrision mostly being the very edges of the rust patch.
