Okay, so I’ve been busy doing stuff – quite a lot of it family things and such, but I’ve been writing too. This, in fact:

I have just delivered the new draft of The Unforgiven to the editors at Black Library, so that is on track for release this summer. In other Dark Angels news I am starting to plan my next Horus Heresy novel, which will turn attention from the Lion’s exploits on the Eastern Fringe back to Caliban. as well as catching up on the ongoing fun with Corswain and Calas Typhon of the Death Guard. Early days yet, but concluding the Legacy of Calibanfor Warhammer 40,000 has put me in the ideal spot for some Heresy-era politics and battles!

I will either love this or burn the countryside in retaliation.

hmmm ...

i hope Corswain survives this book :<

I hope that Gav doesn't have a freaky fetish that involves killing off the only decent characters we have in our series.

How many orders is Corswain running around with?

so, you hope Gav Thorpe isn't like G.R.R. Martin :P?
G.R.R. martin actually replaces the dead good characters with live good characters. It would be an insult to put him and Gav Thorpe in the same league.

Yeah he doesn't kill indiscriminately. Maybe sadistically to feed off of our tears, but he doesn't wield his killing blade without good reason.

Nemiel on the other hand...well the poor SoB stood no chance.

Better the Dark Angels than my Raven Guard...

WLK

Could be worse...we could have Nick Kyme.

I'm tempted to write some early inception 1st Legion for the B & C though I'm no Abnett myself :P

1000hyenas did a great job with his early legionary recruits....

I know its not nice and all to say Thorpe can't write and its not like I'm a world renowned author so I will pass on the hate train.  That being said I "CAN" read and after trying to get through two of Gav's previous ... uh ... books I will never spend hard earned coins on anything he even edits .  That man has a unique ability to make space marines wimpy, slow moving and often helpless simpletons and... oh dear I appear to have boarded the train.

I'm really ambivilous about this.

Angels of Darkness was great, and was one of the things that drew me to the Dark Angels in 40k. However, Gav's recent books have gone from borderline to difficult to read, and frankly there have been better portrayals of the Dark Angels during the Heresy (A-D-B I'm looking at you).

I don't want to go in prejudiced, thinking it's going to be sub-par, but I really hope that this book is better than what I'm expecting.

I liked Angels of Darkness very much, and also the way the "trilogy of Caliban" is being planned.

What I don't like is that Gav's Astartes think and act too much like normal humans, and not like psycho-indoctrinated divine death machines.

And the Dark Angels are among the less human Space Marines.

They are the First, alone against the angry stars.

They are humanity's savage weapons.

Gav Thorpe is 50/50 for me. I really enjoyed "Raptor" so I'm hopefull.
