Best Knight Ally for Sisters

bkde

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Thoughts on the new Knight variants that were just released?  Seems like Paladin with auto cannon carapace weapon would help to shore up a lot of Sister's weaknesses, i.e. Strong in melee, Blast Templates, sky fire.

Anyone have any thoughts on the other knight variants?  Cheers!

I think that the best knight ally is the Acheron. It has 2 Weapons from the holy trinity, Bolter+ Massive cleansing flamer.

Rules-wise, i gives the Sisters a massive AP3 Template, which (AP3) is what we could really do with. Clearing up those MEQ units everywhere.....

Also pretty good in CC and the usual Bullet-magnet. But you have the advantage of Flank Speed

I agree with the others - either an Errant or an Acheron.  Both have their uses, though the Errant is perhaps a bit more useful to your Sisters due to its increased range.  You're not typically want for short-range template weapons (even with Torrent) while a 36" large blast Melta gives you both a bit longer reach and a larger impact radius.  The ability to take carapace weapons is another plus.  You can opt for either increased firepower against tanks/MEQ or infantry, or take the Icarus Autocannons to fight Flyers.

The Crusader is a variant on this theme - it's more expensive than the Errant and lacks the benefit of Str D in assault.  However, you're likely to have enough Sisters in proximity to bubble-wrap it.  It would bring additional long-range weaponry to compliment your army.  Fortunately, I think it's easy enough to magnetize the left arm so you can choose between the Errant and Crusader pattern on a game-by-game basis.  You can also switch between carapace mounts, as you can build both the rocket pods and the autocannons.  Magnetize the rocket pod facings and you're good to go!

You're not typically want for short-range template weapons (even with Torrent)

I am wondering if you are aware that it is not a Torrent Template, but a "Hellstorm" Template (Apocalypse flamer).

Still short range, but not that short and a well-placed one of these could easily remove 2 Marine squads, or possibly even an entire Tau gunline (If you're alive)

I have been playing with an Errant for a while and i feel that i have enough Exorcists+dominions to not really need the AP1 Blast, especially without Ignores cover.

Dealing with a very large amount of 3+ armour however is slightly more tricky, and where the Acheron comes in nicely =D

Strength 7, AP 3, Hellstorm does more than enough and still enough to charge in and kill something. The melta Knight is also good but not something we really need. We have Hord control and melta, its Combat we struggle and the lancer  does that but not as well as other things.

Ah yes, but it's still <36" range.  My argument doesn't change, but your mileage will vary.

It's interesting that people went for the Acheron.  The Errant I personally view as repetitive.  As someone stated above, we already have tons of S8 AP1 in the army so other than adding the single shot large blast, and putting the melta theme aside, it almost seems the most redundant of the knight options.

The ignores cover from the Acheron hellstorm template would be an awesome bonus, but I'm still not convinced that it's the best choice either (again putting the sister holy trinity theme aside).  For five points less it's possible to get a Paladin with AA capabilities, D weapon and two large blast templates which can fire at a range >36"...although the Paladin does lose flank speed.  Not to mention the cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ wise.

I don't put aside my faith in the Holy trinity !

However rules-wise only, we need *much* AP3, or long-distance sustained fire, and a threat to take the aggro.

The Acheron only does 2 of those, but i can see one of the new Weapons platforms working quite well...

Battle Canon on one arm, Gatling Gun on the other and Anti-Air or more firepower on top.

They are going to be on your back line though, so it still only fulfils 2 of the requirements =P

True, S8 AP1 Melta Blast may seem redundant, but the Errant does that at 36". It has an effective Melta threat bubble of 60" (12" move + 18" Melta range), which is huge considering Sisters only have a 24" threat bubble.

It's also got a big target on its head, which lets mechanized Sisters advance properly.

I think Sisters need the Warden.

The army has flamers and Meltas, but limited ranged meq killing power.

The Warden shreds through Tyranids and various MCs, has the range to be useful, and provides the much needed cc power.

The Gatling Bolt Cannon or whatever is also thematic...

Agreed, i was looking for the name of it, but i'd say Warden or Acheron for my support choices tongue.png

Sir, have you heard of the "Exorcist"?

No?

Well you see, it is this beautiful tank that provide range for any army worth.... Please don't close the door on me Sir, I insist!

You should learn about our Lord Exorcist, bringer of death...

Just had a look at a White Dwarf, i meant Knight Crusader..... not Warden. The Warden is pretty much as useful as the Paladin. The Crusader is the one a Sisters army could make use of, with MEQ clearing power at longer range than the Acheron (which is on par, depending how bunched up they are...) msn-wink.gif

I'm building the Living Litany to hang out with my sisters.

I don't need AA fire.

I don't need extended threat bubbles.

I need an unhinged, High Gothic chanting, battlescarred, Knight Gallant charging across the battlefield and throwing the enemy's toys back at him.

That sounds ridiculously awesome. What is a Living Litany?? Is it in the new IK book?

As for Exorcists, yes, they're a good option. Some would argue the best option in Heavy Support. But I find d6 S8 shots moderately unreliable. They're not Melta, but that doesn't matter too much depending on the target. :P

I'm actually getting a lot of mileage recently out of Heavy Bolter Retributors in that slot. Mow down those stubborn Necrons.

Yeah, Living Litany is one of the example Freeblades from the new codex. A Knight Gallant with the six round carapace missile pod - I think Ironstorm - in black and grey, with a cratered hole in the faceplate over one eye.

I saw the photos and wanted to know more. I read it's background and thought it sounded like a perfect fit for my Sororitas.
