Skitarii is it worth starting them?

Recommended Posts

Well, the Mechanicus is due another release starting this week with the new robots (resilience and killing power in spades) and it bodes well go use them with Skitarii for one army. Wait until the codex cult mechanicus is out soon and you'll be able to judge a bit better :)

Yes, the step between Daemon killing power and Skitarii. But you will get used to the far superior output of Skitarii, I assure you ;)

Skits are a good army on their own and great of combined with Knights or Cult. Their ranged output is nothing short of insane but they need a few tough guys to take the shots for them. Imagine a geeky computer nerd being able to kill you with the power of science but needs the local football hooligans to hide behind.

If you use no allies, they can survive by redundancy. They are pretty cheap individually. So instead the nerd and the hooligans you now have an army of nerds running your way. Blimey, that actually sounds pretty effin scary :D

Your timing is great. The army is fresh, the community is growing and a massive Tactica is in the works as of today. If you are also interested in Knights, check out their Tactica here on the forum. The Allied combinations and tactics will be up soon.

Enjoy your stay ;)

They are a characterful choice. They are essentially a mid-tier codex though. However, if you look at it from a fluff point of view they are all cyborgs and have a computer motherboard embedded in their brains, which is cool.

Also, SOLAR-electric FREAKING RIFLES!

:P

(disclaimer: I am a fan of arc rifles)

Hey guys im.considering starting a skitarii force and im wondering if it is worth starting a force of them

If your interested in the cult mechanicus as well i'd wait it out a few weeks and then see how things turn out. But really, you have to ask yourself if this is an army you like enough to commit to. (and by commit I mean assemble, paint, create a list etc). I couldn't be bothered to start a whole new army just because they do well rules wise, rules are subject to change even faster lately with GW speeding up the codex updates. So one really powerful army might stay powerful for a year and then the next update nerfs them good.

Honestly I would highly recommend a Skitarii force.

(This is from a guy who rarely plays and is more into painting/modelling)

They are some of the best kits to build; so detailed and look great.

Painting them has been a joy too, and I'm awful at finishing projects but I can see this being my first fully painted army.

- They are so quick to paint, so can do it fast.

- They are nothing like anything released before and all their units are so different so I can keep painting them and not get bored.

The only thing I don't enjoy is building/cleaning them as there is a lot of mould lines to removed and it just takes a lot of effort - but after that the posing is fun too and it is possible to make every guy unique in small forces.

When I do play, my mates are not competitive at all so running them as Dark Mech allies to Chaos is definitely an option and will fill a gap in their codex.

So yeah, if you're behind it you'll likely feel the same way I do and this will be a great army to collect.

I recently started a skitarii force myself, and have 10 vanguards, 10 rangers a dunecrawler and an imperial knight, all painted in the same theme and I love how striking and intimidating they all look together.

From a gameplay view the skitarii troops have an amazing amount of firepower and are both flexible and powerful in their wargear options. Without allies though (I enjoy thematic armies) they are very vulnerable, and I rue the day I will face a Grey Knight player shunting dreadknights with heavy incenerators in my face, instant killing at best half a squad with just 1 gun (a template wounding on 2's with no saves of any kind and no FNP either).

The universal scout rule I find to be very handy, it allows for either more interesting deployment, and can make a first turn round of shooting far more efficient.

Even with relatively few units in the codex they can have a lot of interesting loadouts and unique weapons and unless your local meta is hardcore WYSIWYG, you can make many interesting army lists with few models.

My only "beef" at this point is the price tag on the ironstrider models, I want to try and field these guys but just three of them punishes the wallet as much as a brand new knight warden msn-wink.gif

^ This.

I have noticed that a lot of the mould lines are positioned at the edge of detail, or inside joins. I must have wasted a lot of time smoothing areas that will never be seen again. blush.png Check how the pieces fit together and you might be surprised how little cleaning you need to do.

PS. With ETL IV just beginning now is a great time to start a new army. I'm finding it very motivating. thumbsup.gif

Dunno though, I find their small details to be a bit of a slowdown to my painting speed. I wouldn't pick them up expecting an easy project, but if you're willing to take the time on them you can get some amazing results because these are easily some of the best plastic molds in GW's range.

I'd highly recommend getting the codex first, though. It's bargain priced for the content it has, especially in terms of explaining Skitarii backstory and the Adeptus Mechanicus as a whole. The artwork is absolutely excellent, too!

Welcome to the machine! biggrin.png
