FarFromSam Posted May 11, 2015 Share Posted May 11, 2015 Howdy fellas, I'm looking for this forum's expertise as I want to ally in some Guard for my Dark Angel army. I'm running Azrael and a blob of 50 guard, 2 psykers, and a priest. The problem is, my hq commisar thinks it's good fun to put a round through the psyker's expensive brain. Not only that, but he's a little pricy himself (70 with melta bomb upgrade) and doesn't do much aside from securing go go go! However, I don't see any alternatives in the standard codex. I'm hoping there is a Forgeworld option to consider. So, I challenge you all to suggest a better alternative that fills one or more of the following: -Cheap! As this unit is already costly, I'm interested in a similar choice if he's cheaper. -Can safely (without giving up first blood) hang back and secure an objective. - Give the rest of the army a boon. I have two tacticals and a command squad with bolter banner in drop pods and 3 bike squads that could always use help. -Is a psyker with access to biomancy. This would be preferred as it would fill the hq choice and save points. There you have it gentlemen. Hats off to whomever can help. I'm not up to date on FW's Guard offerings, at least the HQ stuff but failing that there's always the CCS. They can be quite cheap if you want and you could make use of their orders. Zectz Posted May 12, 2015 Share Posted May 12, 2015 Forgeworld has 2 HQ to offer, neither being a cheap HQ tax unit. Keep in mind these guys are not updated for 7th edition as far as I know... There is general Odon which is +30 points to an existing command squad who can give 3 orders a turn like creed and his order range is larger at 24". Or you have Colonel Stranski (command squad again) which doesn't really give anything now, his rule was 'scoring' but that's not a thing in 7th edition anymore. If you are looking for a cheap mandatory HQ and already have 2 Leman Russes you can just make 1 a tank commander for 40 points to make it your HQ slot instead if a heavy. But that's only if you are taking 2 Leman Russes as part of your allied detachment. Otherwise, the only options you have are a lord commissar and a command squad. Both at 65 points minimum. If you just want a cheap HQ to fill the slot and contribute "something" to the army, then you can just get a stock command squad who can just sit back on an objective, man an aegis defense line gun or something. They could issue orders to your infantry blob as well.
