Heresy Era Scouts?

Recommended Posts

Did Space Marine Scouts as we know them in 40k exist in 30k? Or were there only Recon Marines, regular Marines trained as scouts? I know the whole Process to make a Space Marine did change from 30k to 40k, so is that why 40k scouts are like they are?

I ask this because I want to know if fielding 40k scouts in a 30k arrmy is era correct, otherwise do I just use Recon Marines or is there a Gap FW has yet to Fill in?

As far as we know, they dont exist.

As for using 40k Scout models in 30k, Recon Marines have the option of trading Power Armor for Carapace so it works out.

Aye, insofar as we know, "neophytes" as we conceive them in 40k really don't exist; post enhancement and training, aspirants seem to graduate directly into tactical sections and move on to various specialization from there. The whole Scout -> ASM -> Devestator -> Tactical -> Veteran thing really is a 40k artifice influenced by experiences with the Legions and a byproduct of the need for more direct battlefield training with slower training times and reduced recruitment pools/capacity.

On scouts, in the Night Lord Omnibus, there's a short about Talos recruitment. He seems to go through the whole scout first process and he is recruited pre Heresy. Of course ADB may have penned that before Forge World expanded the background of this era. Also there pictures of scouts in Collected Visions. World Eater scouts at that.
