Cadian Cosplay

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm off to MCM this month, so I've started to assemble my cosplay I'll be wearing. It's the first year that I've decided to try and do it proper like, so I'm going as a Cadian Sergeant. It won't be 100% accurate to the miniatures, but I'm aiming to get it close enough to be recognisable. Should also be fun to go into character a bit. :P

So far I've got the chainsword and helmet made up, and khakis and boots ordered. Also have some props such as the Uplifting Primer, Lasgun powerpacks and bloody bandages to add a little detail to the outfit. Just have to get the leg and arm plating sorted, as well as the Flak Vest.

Very nice work - I'll look forward to seeing more :). I'd love to have a go at this myself, but I'd want to do it more exhibit style, so have the uniform mounted upon a mannequin as you often see in museums.

Pretty cool stuff! Any chance we get to see your ranged weapon? happy.png

That so sounds like an innuendo.

Thinking about it, my Airsoft kit looks surprisingly similar to Kasrkin Gear. I would probably need to trade out the plate carrier for my IOTV and swap my Fast helmet for an ACH, and Voila, Stormtrooper.

Sweet Idea though, I'd love to see how well executed it is.

I sadly don't have one, just Chainsword at the moment. I'm just making the basic outfit, then I'll be refining it as I go and tweaking aspects of it. I have plans to build the venerable Lasgun at some point!

Maybe for a quick fix make a holster and have a barrel poking out the bottom and a handle out the top?

One does not simply cosplay being a Guardsman. It's a state of mind ;) You don't necessarily need a gun, just point aggressively enough and that makes you part of the chain of command. After all, you point and others shoot right? :P

If you want we can knock up a little poster for you to hand out. If anyone asks tell them you're recruiting for the barracks

What day are you heading to Comicon Coffee? I'm visiting on the Saturday with my elder daughter, so I'll keep an eye out for the Chainsword and say hi if I see you!

I should be down both days at MCM, though I'll be wandering around a bit. Would be cool to meet someone from the B&C in person!

Got some Shoulder Plates done up with a rough rendition of the Cadian Gate and a Sergeant symbol. With those in place, I just need to get a suitable shirt to use underneath the Flak Vest, then get the Flak Vest itself finished! Got ideas for a few finishing touches to make, also considering sorting out some shin and kneepad plating as I've got some paintball shinpads I could use.

Managed to get it together in the end, was a mad rush though! The cosplay was a Good Enough kinda deal, and I learned a lot from this con about how best to design cosplay. The Chainsword was very fun and a real eye-catcher but crikey was it a heavy thing to lug around all day. The Flak Vest was also a bit bulky and wore a bit heavily on the shoulders over the course of the weekend. On top of that, the flak vest was a bit rubbish, and the shoulder pads I used more so. (The paint started rubbing off, I'm assuming the material doesn't take primer very well. Oh well!)

This was meant to be a first, basic go at it, and I'm already planning the next one. There was a seminar on using 3D Printed parts in a modular format to build parts for cosplay, so I'm going to start looking into that as an option. The problems don't seem to be that much worse than the issues with building, say, Privateer Press models, but the benefits for weight and detail are excellent. The next outfit will be much better regardless. smile.png

Anyway, here's a shot of my Holding The Line against the Khorne Berzerker that stole the show for the 40K Cosplays this weekend:
