Brendaen
Primary detachment will be 3 Knights (Warden - Baron, Paladin, and an Errant... With some options), leaving me with 785 points left for allies. Based on the models I currently own, these are my options: Astra Militarium - Lord Commissar 2 Veteran units with melts/heavy flamer mounted in Tauroxes 2 Veteran units with plasma in Chimeras Astra Militarium option #2- Command squad in Chimera Veteran unit with plasmaguns in Chimera 40 man infantry blob Scions - Command squad with Volleyguns mounted in a Taurox with gatlin gun/volleyguns 2 full Scion units with plasma mounted in Tauroxes with ML/autocannons Space wolves - Runepriest 10 man Grey hunter unit with 2 plasmaguns Two 10 man Grey hunter units with meltaguns in Rhinos Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307574-best-allies-for-my-knights/ Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Check the guide in my sig. I made an outline about Skitarii allies and will soon move on to IG allies. In my opinion, Skits and IG make the best ones. SW does well if you play Champions of Fenris, running mounted Iron Priests for a fast moving aggressive army. I do not recommend Scions. They do not bring enough bodies and are not tough enough. Out of your given option, I prefer IG option #2. You want the bodies. I would give both Vets and CCS the full set of Meltas. You need tank-busting capabilities to support Knights. Brendaen
My mistake on AM option #2: Command squad with 3 melta's and Vox in Chimera 40 man infantry blob with Grenade launchers and Vox's, command has flamers/heavy flamer and Vox 2 Veteran units with meltas/heavy flamer in Tauroxes And, yes, I think this is my best option. Frater Cornelius
Indeed. Good firepower and staying power. Although, I might suggest a slight alteration. How about dropping the weapons on the Platoon Command Squad and adding Priest to the Blob so that they don't run. At bigger point games you definitely want to invest in Chimeras instead of Taurox for AV12, you can still give the PCS a Taurox if needed, and then looking into Primaris for some Divination action and LR Eradicators for cheap AV14 objective camping and multi-purpose pie plate. Brendaen
My Baron will have the Relic banner (as soon as I figure out how to model it) to help with the staying power, although a bare bones commissar might help as well.. Father Mehman
I would also suggest a Priest but I wouldn't drop anything from the Command Squad. Take a unit of 30 Guardsmen instead of 40- the footprint is big but it's not as big as having forty bodies on the field. The problem is that you can get too big too quickly with guardsmen. Also maybe consider adding an Autocannon or Lascannon with the Guard Allies. I've always found redundancy is better than hoping you have enough of something and finding out mid-game that you don't. Chimera are crucial in bigger games. Remember, you can give orders measured from any point of the hull so you could spread some troopers out.
