Armored Company

I choose the Astra Militarum (at the time Imperial Guard) for their strong artillery. Being an 0811, artillery cannoneer in the USMC, I found the power they have amazing. I am starting to gear my army to the armored company style, as I love the tanks and large explosions.

Here is a picture (please excuse the mess in the back round) of my armor so far:

(Note: I still have three Leman Russes on the spru.)

My 1st game with an all tank list was a team game allied with a new player using Eldar sad.png (Damn xenos) VS Space Marines and Tyranids.

My list included:

HQ

Two Command tanks with Vanquishers and Beast hunting shells plus bonus Hull point and co-axil heavy-stubber.

Elite

Commisar tank with Vanquisher, beast hunting shells bonus hull point and co-axil heavy-stubber.

Fast

Vendetta (Plan on changing out for an Avenger when I get one, might need to drop some bonus hull points from other tanks for it)

Troops

Three basic Leman Russ.

The best thing from the game was my team mate seizing the 1st turn for us and my beast hunters instant killing 2 flying hive tyrants and some weird flying bomber. I got lucky with orders and was able to issue one for free making all passed cover saves rerolled for the beast hunting shells from all three tanks. It was a good learning game for my teammate, I let him make play mistakes and we talked about it after the outcome. We ended up barely wining.

I don't think this army would do great solo but paired up with the right people it could be really good. We have a Monstrous Creature problem where I play.

My question is what should I change out. My team mate changes often and again this is for team playing.

I can't say much on the playing part but don't worry, we have tactical brains in our sub-forum and I'm sure they'll help you out.

Welcome to the Imperial Guard (we don't use the whole Astra whatever name so no problem there)! Your tanks look great and I'm sure you'll take a great tally for the Emperor!

Hoorah, Marine, hoorah smile.png!

That picture is a sight to behold! May your tank treads always be trundling across the mangled corpses of your foes! :D

You're right in that having an ally greatly helps you as they can take the flak from your expensive and fragile army (to close enemies at least!). I think your list is solid, a bit basic and straightforward perhaps but there's not always a need for the fancy pants. So there may not be much needing changing as if your ally mixes it up often then perhaps a steady showing by you is what he needs to base himself around.

I eagerly await seeing your armour get painted up :tu:

And yes those tanks are a sight to behold!!! :tu:

armoured fist troops! atm your force is seriously lacking bodies to capture objectives, and to deter charging units. what point levels are you usually playing, as that will largely influence which units you take as well. by including at least two veteran squads in chimeras you could make this force a standard astra militarum one, thus accesing cheaper russes, although you will miss out on the beastslayer rounds offcourse.

I think three beast hunting vanquishers might be a bit much.  An avenger is best fielded naked, that's actually cheaper than the vendetta it replaces.  I'm not sure about the extra HP on the vanquishers, they should be sniping from extreme range while you shove other stuff in the enemy's face so they stay safe.  You might benefit from some short-ranged tanks, like punishers, eradicators, or demolishers, and those would do well with a fourth HP, since they have to get in close to do their work.

I would love to start painting these tanks. But I suffered cartilage tearing in my dominate wrist... I painted two guardsmen and it took me 5 days.

Holding a paint brush or anything like that for a length of time starts to kill.

I know it seems like a lot but when there was 5 riptides on the table at a time. Or 7 tyranids plus allied army, having the three a turn is nice. The two extra Auto-Cannons aren't worth only 20 points? I figured the 4 extra shots would be good for cleaning up messes and helping with downing other flyers. I will mess with dropping one for a punisher tank. The two extra Auto-Cannons aren't worth only 20 points? I will look to see what is available instead of the 4th hull point. I was trying to stay away from having to close the distance with the enemy, instead use the fact the tanks all have long range and make them come to me. Will play a test game with friends and see how well it goes.

The thing with buying extra weapons on an avenger is you can only shoot four weapons, and you start out with three...if you buy two more, you're basically paying double, because you can only shoot one...it's up to you if it's worth 20 points for one extra autocannon.

Ah my bad. I over looked the 2 Lascannons you start with. Of course I would have (hopefully) notice before building it. I plan on making what I can on this model and my future models magnetic so I can change weapons as I go.
