New to Horus Heresy - Lascannon team a waste of points?

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to decide what heavy support to go along side my Vindicator for my Imperial Fists in a Stone Gauntlet army.

I will be running:

Pollux

(2) 15 man Breacher units

20 man Tactical unit

10 Cataphracti Terminitators with Storm Shields

Vindicator Siege Tank

Spartan Assault Tank

For my 10 man heavy support team I'm trying to decide between Lascannons and Missile Launchers.  The Lascannon Squadis obiviously far more points intensive.  Lascannon Squad @10 marines is 435pnts vs. 285 pnts. for the Missile Launchers

I'm pretty concerned about the big scary mechanized lists I'm seeing for Age of Darkness.  Sicaran Tank Squadrons, Felblades left and right....  makes me want to lean towards the Lascannons but the Breacher teams are so points intensive it's hard to run a heavy unit that expensive.

What do you all think?

Here are my few pennies without doing any maths etc :)  First thing I would say is that with Missile Launchers you can add Flak missiles if you should ever need them.  They could also, at a pinch, be used as missile launchers for Destroyers, and also to allow you to field a Veteran Tactical squad or two if you wished to change your RoW to PotL later on for a change.  Price also has it for me, that and I could field both the ML squad as well as a Sicaran Venator.

Lascannons are good overkill, especially if you'd put a master of the signal with 'em.

However, missile launchers are more flexible and can add some anti-flyer power with flakk missiles.

If you're worried about anti-tank you can always put a siege breaker with them to give them anti-tank.

Plus missile launchers are fluffy for imperial fists.

Those are both great points I hadn't thought of.  The Lascannons just seem like such a great squad to provide a good "When the tank needs to die NOW." solution.  But wow the points....

How are the Missile's Fluffy for the Fists thought?

Imperial Fists Heavy Support teams already have Tank Hunters Baked in.

D'oh! Had forgotten that. Master of signal a go-to option then?

Delicious overkill! 10 BS 5 Tank-Hunting Lascannons. Woof!

This is what I'm thinking.  Tank Hunting Missile Launchers, or Tank Hunting Lascannons?  The Lascannons are over 100 points more expensive...  OUCH!

I probably won't be running the Master of Signal (despite loving the model) due to the Stone Gauntlet limits and wanting an Apothecary Primus instead.

With all the crazy armor in Age of Darkness it makes me want to take the Lacannons.

Does anyone have experience taking either they can give their perspective on?
