The XIII Legion, Ultramarines

Are you planning a thunder hammer and special base for the central dude? His pose looks just about right for a lowered TH with his right foot on a rock or something. I really need to get me some of these!

I do have a thunder hammer....I was going to put an axe with him also but i ran out of glue! But i do like the hammer idea!

  • 2 weeks later...

played my first game with my ultras a few days ago, and it was great. I fielded a 10 man tac squad, a praetor, suzies and telemechrus (was a small point game) against imperial guard. Telemechrus performed great, his assualt cannon tearing through light vehicles and infantry, and the suzies are tough as nails(that 5+ and 6+ shield save is nice) One thing i wasnt sure of is what exactly does Telemechrus' hatred for traitor legions special rule do? I couldnt find much on it

Awesome! Care to share more details about your exploits?

And yeah Telemechrus is kinda underrated (probably cause he's pretty damn expensive dry.png) but a little known fact is he can force re-rolls on the D-chart, which is pretty fun when it works. Anyway here's the rule in question:

Wrath in Betrayal
Honoured Telemechrus has the Hatred (Traitor Legiones
Astartes) special rule, which applies to all units chosen from
Traitor Legiones Astartes forces.

Sure! Turn 1 was pretty uneventful, none of my men having range to take engage the enemy. The other player was able to take out one of my tacs with a lascannon shot. Turn 2 I was able to get tele in range of a chimera, and luckily had a good view of his side armor. BS 5, so i hit 6 shots on 2, and strength 6 of the assualt cannon vs side armor 10 , i was LUCKILY able to roll 3 4's. That took care of that! My tac squad angaged on of his guardsmen squads, taking down about 4. Suzies were pretty useless this turn, not being able to get them in range of anything. When i did get them in CC, they massacred EVERYTHING. Those axes man..... But yea overall it was a pretty successful victory. I do need some more firepower for taking on stronger enemy vehicles, so ill look into adding some las cannons or even plasma. I also need more armor

You should make a mangled Calth Survivor unit with assorted knight msn-wink.gif

Ive been torn between this, or a calth army led by Ventanus, or an underworld war amry led by Ventanus......I love the idea of a slightly post calth army, because house vornherr goes all out and swears a death oath against the traitors....So many decisions!

I have not seen an underworld calth army yet. It's a great opportunity to make a rugged looking force with patchwork armour and sub-optimal equipment, which is a great contrast to the shiny good old boys in blue look everyone portraits them as. It would definitely show the unyielding character of the legion.

I'm personally not fond of an army themed to a very specific period or location if you're looking to game with it.

They'll just look ouf of place if you're fighting in a jungle or forest or in a different scenario...

I don't know about you, but my miniatures spend infinitely more time in the glass cabinet than they do on the table top ;) At the end of the day, how much you like the project is more important than anything else.

I can see the advantages of both. In the case of a themed army, though, I agree with Wolf_Pack.

In cases like an Underworld War-themed army, having specific bases is as much a part as the unit choices etc.; and makes for a great 'talking point' army that'll attract much more interest than a generic one. Certainly it might look odd for gaming outside of that narrow scenario, but within that campaign... well, there's nothing like it :)

For me personally, the greatest joy I have with this hobby is creating an army that I can attach lore and stories too. I need to have themed army, it just makes it so much more enjoyable to me.

I might do Underworld. All my favourite characters are there, and I could easily say a knight or two made it down!

Why not just use the existing lore of kick-ass boys in blue conquering the universe? :-D

I sort of am, just around a specific event.  I like my boys to like they are fighting in a certain campaign, or in this case.....fighting against treachery!

Exactly. I am repainting my iron hands around a post Isstvan reckless self destruction path. Riven was sooooo cool.

I still need a name for my knight......Im going to put a Luna wolf icon on his left leg pad, to show he served with that legion in one campaign. Love the luna wolves, so i think itll be a nice little easter egg
