New to 30k, Starting Death Guard

Here's a cheeky little HQ build I quite like - Take a Centurion, upgrade him to a Moritat and give him a pair of Volkite Serpenta. Not only is he a Gunslinger (can fire two pistols at once) but Chain Fire allows you to keep making shooting attacks until you eventually miss. On top of that you have the Volkite special rule Deflagrate which allows you to inflict the same amount of hits automatically on a unit for every unsaved wound you make. Theoretically, you can wipe out whole squads with him. It probably won't happen, but it's possible. :P

Like the ideas so far.:D

can I use 30k lists against 40k lists?

Is it even fun or competitive?

Also, is there a sub forum on here to find other players in area?

Lastly, what point level do you find the most fun?

As far as I know, it's pretty well balanced against 40k lists, but whether or not you can use it will depend who you ask. And pretty much the bigger the better for 30k. Probably 2500pts up is where it really comes into its own from what I gather.

I suggest trying this subforum if you wish to try finding players in your area: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/forum/128-community/

Failing that, have a ganders around this subforum - many members have where they are from in their own profile.

As has been said, bigger is better. 2000 points would be a good level to aim for, I'd say.

Legion lists work best at the 2k or higher mark, they don't scale as well at lower points but you can certainly still use them without difficulties.

They aren't overpowered against 40k lists, in fact they are more well balanced internally and externally.

If you're looking to try the game out without dropping too much, look into Zone Mortalis. Small games usually 1,500 points or less. Gives you a good idea of how the mechanics work, your Legion's Special Rules, and honestly it's just plain fun.

If you are posting a project only part the way through (or from the beginning) then the WIP is a good bet. If you are posting a completed project, then the Hall of Honour is best. Note that the HH subforum, because of the subject, is good either way.

Each person is different, so what one might consider auto-include may very well not even be on the table for another. That Moritat that I told you about at the top of the page? I reckon he's an auto-include for me, because of the cheeky nature of the build (that and I really like Volkite weapons).

Guess that's not bad then, kind of get to design my own.

Like I said, my books should arrive today or tomorrow.

But, during a game if you are playing an army like DG, do you choose if you are traitor or loyal?

So if I was playing against a loyalist army, I could choose traitor or vice versa

I assume you pick in list construction, some legions have things that are exclusive to traitors (World Eaters have different rules for traitors I think? And there's loyalist characters from a couple of traitor legions).

I used to run a twin plasma pistol Moritat for my SoH... I'm still bitter he got nerfed out of viable play :-( lol

But on the bright side, volkite moritats! *choom x100*

My books arrived, holy crap  there is a lot in here.

I purchased the gamer's collection.  Trying to find the rules for Rad-phage.

Anyone got a page number?

Not sure about page numbers but it'll be either with the rad missile launcher in the LACAL book (pretty sure they have it) or with the DG stuff in the Istvaan legions one.
