Your favourite armor Mk and why

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place, but i wanted to know everyones favourite mark of power armor, and why its your favourite. I love discussing these kinds of things so im hoping for lots of activity!

My personal favourite would have to be mk 2. I love the looks of it, and i also love what it resembles: The golden age of humanity.

Now, i must add my favorite mark of armor from a character is Remus Ventanus. His Mk 2 breast plate with the big straps/cables, and his spiked shoulder pad is just ace.

MK III by far its just so damb meaty and tough looking it makes me think of how astartes don't seek cover ... they are cover

Mk 3 legs are by far my favourite! I love extra plate at the front, and the looped armor on the back of the legs. I love seeing mk 2 torsos on mk 3 legs

Somehow, over time Mk III has managed to become my least favorite one of all.. I'd say Mk IV closely followed by Mk II, with Mks V and VI pretty much tied afterwards...

+ Edit : As for why? Not quite sure, I think MkIII just seems too unbalanced, there's just too much weight forward, kinda makes it feel as though the marines would be too unbalanced and thus impared in their fighting

I'm a sucker for Mark IV. It's just so sexy. FW only, though. A close second has to be Mark II. It has that ancient feel to it that screams great crusade. When it comes down to it though, my favorite suits end up being bashes of all sorts of different marks.

Yes i agree, i love seeing parts of mk 2, with parts of mk 3. Or parts of mk 4 with mk 6. It looks the best!

Don't forget the odd bit of Mk V/pieces with the ceramite bonding studs on them. I know they can effectively be on any mark of armour (although mostly later ones), but they add a certain brutality to the models.

I'm still going with Mk III, though. Would love to see FW make a version of it for Destroyers.

I absolutely love me some Mk. III armor. It's brutal looking, it's knightly in a sense, it's got this look that says, " I can go out in a trench for three months and get beat to hell and still work just as well as the day I was made." Its the Jeep Cherokee of Power Armor. I do also love Mk. II especially the Legion kit. Once FW beefed up the legs they became really appealing, the original kit just looks goofy. Love the overlapped Mk. II helm from the Command Squad, probably my favorite helm.

Somehow, over time Mk III has managed to become my least favorite one of all.

Alright, time to dust this off again.

So MK III is my favorite. To me, nothing personifies the Great Crusade/Heresy era better than MK III and any image of it immediately takes your mind there. It also demonstrates how arms and armor were purpose built for a specific task back then, rather than the later power armor marks and marine chapters that are more utilitarian and suffer were specialization is needed. It was created for void combat, ship fighting, and other engagements were cover was scarce or non-existent, so the front of it became the cover.

Then there's the MK III shoulder pads. What power armor, regardless of mark, doesn't look amazing with MK III shoulder pads?

MK IV is a close second, with the chest and head of MK II being third. The MK II arms and legs are very 'meh' to me.

But as much as I love the III, the crazy converter in me just can't do an entire army of a single armor mark. I have to mix them up and personalize each figure, which also fits with the fluff, where damaged pieces were replaced with bits of new marks, and perhaps an old favorite was chosen in favor of a shiny new model.

I love  both of their armor. Ventanus has the mk 2 breast plate with modified mk 4 legs, and seleton has a mk 2 torso with mk 3 legs. Looks great

Each one, I think, has its own appeal. I use them to portray Legionaries with different roles, lore permitting.

Mark II "Crusade" - I'm not a huge fan of the segmented legs and plain shoulders. That said, I do think the Mark II command set looks great (especially if customized with some Legion-specific chests and heads). I typically use this armor mark to portray the oldest veterans of a given Legion.

Mark III "Iron" - Without a doubt, this is my new favorite. I enjoy both the brutally functional appearance and the lore justification behind it. The trims that are present on each armor panel also allow me to break up the monotony of certain Legions' paint schemes. I typically use this armor mark to portray boarding specialists and heavy weapons teams.

Mark IV "Maximus" - This is the most widely used one. It's so ubiquitous that I think we'd be hard-pressed to not include at least some in our armies. I typically use this armor mark to portray line tactical troops.

Mark V "Heresy" - I like the looks of this one but I think the kit itself is a bit dated by FW standards. I typically use this armor park to portray units that would suffer high attrition rates - World Eaters assault troops, for example. The idea would be that they are the ones who would need ad hoc armor repairs in the field the most often.

Mark VI "Corvus" - Again, I enjoy the looks but find it difficult to incorporate it into most armies outside of the Raven Guard or Alpha Legion.

I'm a sucker for Mark IV. It's just so sexy. FW only, though. A close second has to be Mark II. It has that ancient feel to it that screams great crusade. When it comes down to it though, my favorite suits end up being bashes of all sorts of different marks.

How does it differ from GW Mk IV?

I also dig both the Cataphractii and Tartaros TDAs. In my opinion, they are very purposeful and looks far better than the Indomitus TDA.

Cataphractii is by far my favorite terminator armor. It seems everything is better in 30k smile.png

Cataphractii forever. I think the Tartaros looks too much like regular power armor and that it was made to blow the minds of those poor, demented True Scalers.

The square shoulder pauldrons really do it for me.
